I'm having big problems with my new computer - I installed XP on my new Inspiron 1520 and tried out flight simulator 2004 on it. However the engine sound is terrible - pops and crackles everywhere. I turned down directsound acceleration but all three settings give the same result. There is an improvement if I turn it off, but then in the game although the engine sounds are better the atc sounds are terrible...

I've tried various drivers but none seem to be any better... The strange thing is that the crackles only seem to occur during a change in the sound, when accelerating or decelerating - they dont occur when cruising for example.

I don't have any problems playing music or anything else, and i havent tried any other games yet - but it seems to occur with all games that involve directsound.

Is anyone running FS2004 with this soundcard (Sigmatel 9205) and not experiencing crackling?

    Thanks!

Maybe try un installing all audio drivers. Then restart and update to new ones.

Then I'd say its the actual sound card. But that's just my guess. What's dell support say?
