Ok so here is the deal , Ive had the inspiron 1520 for a few months now , not to many complaints. I just got the Creative X-FI express card for the notebook.

After a **** load of research Im going to get the Logitech Z 5500's
still waiting for a 220 dollar or less deal with shipping somewhere! I know I will find it.

    still many questions though:

There are so many ways to connect the speakers and i just dontget them all and what they are.

1.my card has optical out can i use that?
    2. do I need to buy the 35 dollar adaptor for the xpress sound card to make it surround?
    3. can I use coaxial..??

    what is the best quality
    what is cheapest ?
    what is most convinent?

    Thank you

    For lowest prices, try this.
PROVANTAGE has a good price on them, see this. I purchase my speakers from PROVANTAGE (Logitech z-2300) and I recommend purchasing from them.
Amazon has a relatively good price on them, and depending on where you live, you may not have to pay sales tax.

I have the Z5500 and its way awesome, I use it for my 360 (over optical) and my laptop just straight from the headphone jack to the speakers. While its not pure Digital sound it still sounds awesome. With pro logic II its basically a fake surround sound but work and sounds great (built into the decoder box that comes with the Z5500. So you have have up to 3 different things plugged in and just switch between them. You get all the cables you should need for the laptop with the Z5500 (if you get the adapter).

If you want true Surround sound you will need that adapter for that laptop card. If you want to fake it you can use ProLogic II in movie or Music mode (I use these all the time).
