While encoding an H.264 file from a DVD using Nero Recode 2 (which uses about 95% of the processor power), anytime I play any audio, either with iTunes or just from a website, the audio gets annoying crackles in it.
Can anyone think of why this is?

Running XP SP2 with basic audio drivers.

Since H264 encoding is hard on the processor, maybe those media players are not getting enough CPU cycles for audio decoding. Try restricting the encoding process to a single core by Task Manager > Set Affinity; however, this will slow down encoding requiring more time finish the job. But it will free up one core to run other things smoothly. Try it out and see if that is the cause.

Good call, I'll give that a shot. I dont think Nero Recode 2 is multi threaded so it probably wont make a huge difference.

I notice my 1520 audio crackles a lot when playing games. I think we need new sigmatel drivers, or the chipset sucks :(.
