i have something under a button, can i just pop it off to clean it? it's the left shift button.
-
How big or how stuck is it? You may be able to remove it with a can of compressed air
-
dude...i did it...and the button won't go back. something flew out at me and i am not sure if it was the thing under the keys or something from the keyitself. shift key is not going back....

Call dell and ask for a replacement keyboard. I'm assuming it's still under warranty.
-
i have no idea what warranty i got. i didn't pay for any extra warranty so what was the default thing, a year? i think i got it 4 months ago maybe. i feel so stupid for doing this.
-
If it has only been four months, you should still be under warranty. I don't know if they'd send you a replacement keyboard or make you send your laptop into depot though.
-
Claim it has mechanical problems and they will send you a replacement after making you jump through a few diagnostic hoops. Just lie and say it makes clicking snapping sounds when you type.
LMFAO.. I do this once a month so I can get a new keyboard. I had how the texture fades and gets all glossy, that's why. Hardly noticeable on silver but black aw man terrible but I can feel the difference. -
Okay but i am not in the US though I ordered from there, so I would hate having to send it back.
-
If they send you a laptop keyboard, how easy is it to install on your own?
-
Right above the power light on the right, there is a little "gap". Just pull that up, carefully. NO SCREWS THERE.
Once you remove that piece. There will be 4 screws holding the keyboard to the palm rest. Remove those 4 screrws, SLIDE the keyboard up, and then lift!

Hello,
My name is Mike, Im a Technical Analyst at Dell corporate headquarters in Round Rock, TX. Im part of an internet outreach team developed to interact with the online community regarding technical questions and issues that customers face with Dell products. I thought Id pop in and offer up some help.
Support should have no problem sending you the keyboard if the key wont go back on. No need to embellish, these things happen thats what the warranty is for. As far as the actual act of replacing the keyboard, here is the service manual for your machine. It has pictures and step by step instructions to guide you through the process. Its a pretty simple swap so you shouldnt have any trouble with it at all. I hope this helps.

Sorry to jump on you like this, but since we have a real Dell support person here, I thought I'd get your take on this tread.

As you can see in the thread, many of us are having problems. Do you have any advice for us on this??? I am personally considering returning my notebook for one on which I can listen to classical music, as this is impossible on my current 1520. -
