    Hey everyone,

Has this problem been solved yet?

Just got my Inspiron 1520. Runs XP fine, but with Vista Ultimate (OEM) it gets a blue screen everytime I boot. The loading bar runs and runs and suddenly cuts out, I get a sudden blue screen flash and the computer reboots itself to start the same vicious cycle. This only happens at boot.

I've heard this mentioned here and there, but I haven't been able to find any permanent solutions to the problem. The only one that's worked so far is pulling out and replacing my battery every time I reboot, which I terribly annoying.

    Any advice?????? Thanks everyone.

Well for starters you don't have to take out the battery every time. Just press the power button for about 5 seconds and the machine will shut off.

Secondly, i would suggest reinstalling Vista, as it seems something went wrong with your installation.

How long has this been happening?
Did you install any updates just before this started happening?

Can you post what the blue screen says? That actually says a lot about what the error is.

I have an inspiron that has vista running just fine so it sounds like a bad install . Post what the blue screen says and i will help :)

The blue screen just flash for less than a second. I could not even get to read the error message written on it.
I personally also think that the root cause might come from the incomplete installaiton of something which I still do not know yet what it is. Windows works just fine if I do not update windows. But I have to stay with the notice of "New updates available" for all time. I am not sure if driver relates to this or not. I can not use resource DVD which came with the laptop because of the problem of the DVD. Therefore I needed to downloaded driver from fell website. I tried reinstalling windows several times, after updating windows, problem still exists.
Some strange points of my windows are that after I installed the google toolbar, it does not appear on my IE. The 3d flip function does not work even after I installed driver for my NVIDIA.  :(

Yay! A problem I can offer a solution to. :)

I had this problem yesterday when I decided to reinstall Vista. The re-installation was straightforward, but then I ran Windows update and installed everything. On rebooting, the Windows progress bar got about halfway, and stopped. A brief glimpse of a blue-screen, and the computer had restarted, giving me the option to repair from the Vista DVD, or start in safe-mode. I chose the latter, and the boot sequence got stuck at CRCDISK.SYS.

I then tried the repair option, and it rolled Vista back to before the updates were installed. It then worked fine. I did some Googling, and discovered that the problem was with update KB943899.

I ran update again and made sure KB943899 was un-selected. Re-booted and everything was fine.

I should also mention that the conflict was apparently with the SATA drivers. If you update them, then you should be able to install KB943899, though I haven't tried this yet. KB943899 isn't essential.

You mean SP1 helps fixing the problem? How can I know if my windows is SP1 or not? And if its not, will be available in update?
