Hey Dellsters, I hope this thread is going to be a very very long one !![]()
I hope we will soon see the first 1520 review![]()
-
I dont think any of us own one yet, as none have shipped. We're all looking forward to it though.
-
Actually who ordered it on 26th should have it next week ! cannot wait mine
-
I ordered around the 27. When do you think mine will ship?
-
Only a wild guess is .. after July 9th
-
I'm actually kind of happy about that, because I'd like to see the 4th of July Sales dell has.
-
I just hope they'll have some discounts, more than the current $350 coupon!
-
-
Same here, the $350.00 discounts sucks. But once Dell get rolling on shipping, they usually build and ship really fast.
-
Mine has been ordered as well...cost around $1530...lovely price for what I am getting.
Hopefully, I'll be able to write a review.
Even if it's late lol -
The price for extra DDR and HDD is too much @ Dell .. I should've ordered the biggest screen instead of DDR and HDD .. but it's your lappie, not mine !
-
can't wait to get mine
.

Because 1680x1050 on a 15.4" screen is nuts (at least for me and some people).
It's just too big for no reason. 1280x800 is really way too small for me, but 1680x1050 is way too big.
1440x900 is just right. -
*NOTE: This post was supposed to be before Illmatic's but it's now after because I deleted to fix a problem in my signature and he was too quick for me!
Original Post
Might I ask why so many people seem to have gone for the 1440x900 resolution? After being on 16x12 on my desktop for so long I cannot fathom settling for anything less than max resolution on my notebook.
Reply to illmatic
I guess, but for me it's worth the extra $50 to have the option down the road. The only thing that upsets me about this notebook is I REALLY REALLY wish there was a 1680x1050 matte for the 1520, but this was not the case. Oh well, with the deal I got I shouldn't be complaining, right? -
your damn right i'm too quick for you......
I can understand why you want it...but it really comes down to personal preference man. IMO that high of a resolution on a 15 inch screen is just too big. The icons and everything would be so small. -
1280x800 suits me just fine on my 15.4" laptop.
-
what would be better in every ones opinion?
15.4" Widescreen WXGA+ (1440x900) TFT Display with TrueLife or
15.4" UltraSharp Widescreen WSXGA+ (1680x1050) TFT Display with TrueLife
What does Ultrasharp do? What does the S do in WSXGA+?
Thanks -
The S in WSXGA signifies the 1680X1050 resolution. I would assume Ultrasharp is just Dell's naming of their WSXGA screen. Ultrasharp: Higher resolution...
For most people, I think the WXGA+ resolution will be fine. Plus it will run more demanding games smoother at the screens native resolution. I'm a pixel junky, I personally will take a higher res. screen any day. 1680X1050 ain't nothin' compared to what I got now... -
which screen is brightER, 1720(1920*1200) OR 1520(1680*1050)?
-
resolution has nothing to do with brightness and you switched them a little bit buddy. 1520 has the smaller one and I think they're both at about the same level of brightness..
What is it I don't like on this series, is that for 1720, you have an option for 1440x900 anti-glare and for 1520 only for 1280x800 anti-glare
I cannot wait to see a pic with the 9 cell battery to see if it protrudes or not.. -
the 9 cell does stick out a lil but- i posted a pic in this thread...

Hehe thanks Dervis, that doesn't even seem to bother at all !
-
np lol! cant wait now...
-
Mine's still scheduled for shipping on the 13th with overnight shipping.
-
the only reason I am getting the 1440x900 screen is because it is 240 nits, compared to 1650x1200 or whatever screen because it is 200 nits. the original 1280x800 is 210 nits.

click on comapre side by side. -
thanks Dervis, you got me unprepared again !
Indeed, the WXGA+ have 25% more brightness than the WSXGA+ and 33.3% more contrast ! -
lol looks like that saves me around £58.75 getting the WXGA+ than getting the WSXGA+ for a better screen! i like it
-
Im kinda Worried that the processor i ordered is a little low on power.
1.5 Ghz.... x2 im thinking it might not run photoshop and Blender as fast as i would like.
O well at least i got it for like $1214. Not half bad considering that i originally ordered around the 26 at like 8 AM est.
Im hopeing it comes soon. I called dell and the rep said that he would throw in a note to the building department to start on mine ASAP but im quite sure that means nothing. -
1.5GHz is a bit slow and that processor is a bit slow comparing to the T7--- series but the core 2 duo should kick in to make it better, for photoshop u may have been better to get at least the T7100.
if you ask dell to prioritize the order then they usualy start production straight away for no extra cost. -
Yep thats what i did
It just whent into "in-production" and i called the agent and she said that i can get next day shipping totaly free.
Im hopeing that the prosseor i can upgrade l8r on when my laptop warrenty runs out.
Its still Santa Rosa right? -
well done! now it will be produced and with you in no time
All intel processors in the 1520 are santa rosa but the T5250 only has 667MHz whereas the rest have 800MHz which means it isnt really classed as one but it is one if you no what i mean. -
Not sure what you mean.... im pretty bad at that kinda stuff....
But I assume you mean Overclocking. which is what i plan to do if i need some more power.
Assuming it takes them 4-5 days to build the laptop i can get mine this week!!!!!!!
-
-
-
why is it that Powernotebooks can build a laptop in 3-4 days and dell takes 10-15?
-
I can't believe how many people ordered 1520's this is awesome! lol..
I'm guessing it's taking so long because it's new? Doesn't make much sense. I ordered a 1501 for my brother on a Monday and it arrived on Friday. But 24 days for the 1520 to arrive seems a bit long to me. -
I just built a 1520 jet black.
Intel Core Duo T5450 1.66GHZ (powerful enough for casual user?)
Vista Premium
High Res, Glossy, 15.4 1440x900
256MB 8400 video
2GB DDR (currently have 512MB on the gateway)
120GB@5400rpm (I have an 80GB Gateway now and still have 34GB space left)
cd/dvd burner
bluetooth
webcam
9 cell (battery life is terrible on my gateway)
soundblaster audio (hopefully this puts out some good bass)
black/red carrying case
ALL for $1,134 with free shipping
A couple of things...How do I get the brighter screen as discussed here? Also, do you think I will be able to get it cheaper for a 4th of July sale? It seems like a good deal. -

What do you guys think? -
Stunt: Wondering why you have the T7500 instead of the T7300. I think the upgrade is a waste of money as its not nearly as much performance-for-the-dollar. Other than that, my configuration is identical to yours.
-
I kinda just wanted the best available period.lol. Is it really not worth it? I just want a fast machine that can multi-task w/o any lag.
-
I got the T7500 too... why not?

Hello,
Yesterday I ordered my DELL Inspiron 1520 with the following configuration:
SYSTEM COLOR: Midnight Blue edit
PROCESSOR: Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T7300 (2.0GHz/800Mhz FSB/4MB cache)
OPERATING SYSTEM: Genuine Windows ® Vista Home Basic Edition
DISPLAY: High Resolution, glossy widescreen 15.4 inch display (1440x900)

WIRELESS NETWORKING: Dell Wireless 1390 802.11g Mini-Card
BLUETOOTH OPTIONS: Built-in Bluetooth capability (2.0 EDR)
INTEGRATED WEBCAM: Integrated 2.0M Pixel Webcam
BATTERY OPTIONS: 56Whr Lithium Ion Battery (6 cell)
SOUND OPTIONS: Integrated Sound Blaster® Audigy™HD Software Edition
1 year warranty
the initial price was: $1409 but I use de DELL Cupons: http://www.notebookreview.com/dellCoupon.asp and I've saved $350.
The final(with taxes + shipping) price was: $1150
I don't understand why any of you haven't select the Sound Blaster® Audigy™HD for only $25.Until now I used desktops, every one of them with Creative sound cards and I tell it's a huge diference between a regular sound card and a Creative one. If you don't use the laptop to listen to music then for the games: I sow that most of you have chosen the 8600M GT video card. -
and yes, the 8600GT is practically the key that propelled the new 15"-17" Inspirons up there with the G1s and MBP
did any of you hear of any July 4th coupons/discounts yet ? -
what about the 8400... Isn't that a solid video card as an upgrade?
-
Here is a link where u can see a Comparison of Grafic Cards: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Comparison-of-Grafic-Cards.130.0.html -
Cause it is not an integrated chip, but a software program, which emulates surround sound. You can buy it later as well.
