I do cross my fingers for you! However, my ESD was Friday and I got a mail today delaying me till 10/1!!! On the other hand I have the 1440er glossy display and a nice espressobrown lid. Guess they have to roast the coffee beans first...![]()
-
was it 10/01 or 9/01? 10/01 is pretty far away
-
tombo if its 10.1 you should call them up and see if you can get some price reduction .... that seems like a ridiculously long time to wait
-

Typing on my Jet Black 1520 as we speak. I kind of regret going with the 1440 and not the 1600 resolution but it's still sweet as hell. This is by far the closest thing to a perfect notebook. Rawr!
-
I too am typing on my 1520 with all important specs maxed out. It's worth the wait for you who are still waiting for theirs. As I'm sure you're aware, there are a few minor details that can be annoying at times (loose optical drive, CPU whine, headphone noise, grainy screen *for some*, etc...) but those are so minor on mine I can only laugh at some of the people on this site who are making a huge deal out of it.
Gaming is excellent, so as you can imagine simply web browsing and listening to music is even better.
I'm sure you'll all like it once it arrives on your doorstep. -

I can't wait. I configured mine all high end with that $325 coupon, it came out to 1100$ with tax and I am going to be ordering it on Thursday before that coupon ends. What do you guys say? Should I wait for dell to come out with new better promotions or go with this one?
Hey Mordeth, Did you order over the phone to get the free next day? If so I'll do the same, BTW: i am going to pay using PayPal, so I can do that over the phone as well, am I correct?
Plus: How can make them give me a closer ESD, I want it as badly as everyone does. Argh, I just sold my Macbook to get this. -
For those who play Source games, here is a Video Stress Test I did with settings shown (16x Aniso!):

i hope my college classes aren't filled with these 1520,1420s ....seems like everyone is getting one lol
although you cant really brag about a 1000$ computer lol
college-student life is where it's at -
-
Just shove your configuration in all the owners' faces, and tell them that despite having better specs, you got yours for cheaper.
('cause you shopped through notebookreview.com) -
Is it well worth the wait for my 1520?? I'm getting tired of using my girlfriends laptop which has nothing on it and is just a low end dell inspiron B120. I'm getting really impatient and thinking about cancelling my order and getting an Asus. Any thoughts?
-
It's your call man but i would wait and at least see what the quality and performance is like for what you paid for..
also where do people buy asus systems? the asus website doesnt directly sell them -
haha -
-
why not just go for a 1420 if you dont care about the graphics ability?
it is more portable
i would go for a santa rosa processor to save battery life and heat. also the display really depends on your luck -
this thread needs a bump
im sure im not the only one here impatiently waiting for my 1520 lol
REVEAL YOURSELVES!
-
I was going to order mines tonight and THEIR PAYPAL WON'T WORK!!! I mean come on this is bull****. Dell is a mutli-billion dollar company and their paypal payment doesn't work. ****! I hope my coupon doesn't expire, or ohh man.

I GOT MINE
Couple of real quick items to discuss since I havn't had but more than 30 minutes to check this machine out.
1. Headphone noise is present using the Creative headphones shipped with the laptop. I tried some POS over the head $5 pair and no noise. Tried a $15 pair of Maxwell in ear and no noise. I have a pair of Zalman 5.1 headphones that have yet to test out. Will report back on these. I will say that my other laptop, Alienware Area 51, had the feedback using these so I'm assuming the 1520 will also.
2. Before I comment on the screen I have to say that I think I was a bit spoiled with my Alienware. The screen is absolutly beautiful on my Area 51. WSXGA 1600x1080 glossy widescreen. Not at all grainy. Vibrent colors. Just a joy to look at.
Now on to the 1520 screen. Huge difference but not all bad. Love the resolution but it is a little fuzzy and the colors seemed a bit washed out. I'm not complaining about it because I think I'll get used to it. Just think I got spoiled a bit with my Alienware laptop screen.
I think those are the 2 biggest gripes with the 1520 so there's my two cents. Plan on doing some benchmarks later so I'll post when done. -
congrats airbear...enjoy that baby!
glad you like it. i use the bose noise cancelling headphones so i doubt the noise will be an issue -
I already called, but they can do nothing for me as soooooo many people have to wait longer. Well, I don't care!
But obviously people don't always have to wait till that date. I am still hoping I'll get it in August... -
-
Nice, any graininess?
-
i can imagine mine sitting in font of me now lol -
No graininess, here are some specs didn't go for high specs wanted a laptop for school nothing more nothing less.
Intel Core 2 Duo T7100, 1.8GHz, 800Mhz, 4M Cache
2GB, DDR2, 667MHz
15.4 inch WSXGA
256MB GeForce 8600M GT
160G 7200RPM SATA HDD
8X DVD+/-RW Dual Layer
High Def Audio 2.0
Intel 4965AGN Wireless-N Mini Card

That's quite a high spec for a laptop for what you make it out to be...
-
Mine has shipped and should hopefully get here tomorrow I'll be posting pics! I will finally be a 1520 Owner lol.
-

I will be soon the hopefully proud owner of a Dell 1520. This is my first Dell product so lets see if I will be happy or disappointed.
-
Well to be honest this is my first Dell product too, sticked with Asus like forever. I really like the Inspiron 1520 so far
I just reformatted the HDD removed that stupid recovery partition and did a clean install of Windows real easy way to get rid of all the bloatware -
Hey Dell 1520 owners,
I had ordered the ruby red 1520 but when i found out mine got delayed an extra month on top of my delivery date i went looking elsewhere i bought the HP Pavillion dv6462ca a special edition that future shop built.

The only thing I noticed is the mouse pad is quite warm so warm that it makes my hand sweat and it just doesnt fill normal to me as i have used laptops in the past and they were not like that. I only bought it yesterday and got it today. I was wondering if the dell 1520 mousepad is warm as well. I am thinking about bringing the HP back but i dont want the dell either if it does the same thing. HP told me he get so warm because of all the stuff i have in it, but i dont think i can use it long term like that. So i am just wondering if the dells are warm as well. Thanks Guys)
-
That HP is a downgrade. 4200rpm=crap. I guess if your not in a hurry or anything its ok. But having integrated graphics with vista sucks baws. It will probably won't work with aero. It has half the l2 cache and and bus speed is 533mhz compared to 800mhz. But I will hand it to HP, they have some hardcore batteries, Allthough I can't complain about the 9 cell that came with my 1520. And no my touch pad does not get hot at all, not even warm. I'd return and go with the dell myself but in the end its all up to you. -

Dell is really off their game... I was told my laptop would ship
8/24/07 at the very latest..now as it turns out theres new Back-Order on the Jet Black matte finish covers.... go figure..I mean who the hell
is in charge or marketing, supplies and so forth.. It really doesn't take a rocket scientist *and if you are a rocket scientist call them up and tell them how to fix it ~ lol *
So yah, I'm pissed, although I have been guaranteed overnight shipping/delivery., but won't be shipped til 8/31/07
-
There's no delay on the Jet Black.
-
There IS delay on the screens still.
-
Boxing as of 8/25/2007
-
After a cancellation and reorder my ESD is moved up to the 10th of September...
I dropped the Intel N wireless NIC and bumped up the specs in hopes of getting it faster (the spec increase came from some discount enhancements).
Dell Inspiron 1520 - Jet Black
Intel T7300 - 2Ghz - 800Mhz FSB - 4MB L2 Cache
15.4" 1680x1050 Glossy Screen
1GB DDR2 667Mhz RAM
256MB Nvdia GeForce 8600M GT
Intel 3945 A/B/G WiFi
8x DVD Writer
Bluetooth 2.0 EDR
160GB 5400 RPM HD -
Does anyone know if the type of headphones used has any affect on the sound jack issue? Is the graininess problem less common with the XGA matte screen? Thanks.
-
Can't comment on the screen, however I got the 1440x900 Gloss true life and its not grainy at all looks very nice. -
I received my 1520 today! It's really great, has no problems. The screen is great. I haven't tried the headphone jack yet, but so far, everything is running smoothly
-
Cool!
Please try the headphones. Thanks!
