perf class 2 versus perf class 3. question is, will there really be a noticeable difference between the 8400 / 8600

    Hi all,

I had just ordered mine yesterday. Expected to get it on 17th Jul. Wow! Never expect it will take so long. I had compared with other models, hp, Toshiba, Acer and I found it is the cheapest among all for the same spec. Hopefully, I will like it when it come!

    Spec : T7300, 2 Gb, 160 Mb, Wireless N, 1280 X 800 matte display, 3 years completecover and Microsoft Office Basic for only MY 4993. (~1500 USD)

Maybe the 8400GT (only Vaio FZ has it) could be a mere challenge, but never ever the weaker 8400GS .. the difference between 8400GS and 8600GT is like between 7400 and 7800 :D

    http://www.dell.com/content/learnmo...ound_inspn&~lt=popup&~series=inspn&~tab=other

it looks like there are some real advantages (mixing, Dolby Digital, EAX, number of effects, etc) even if the HD (only!) is software emulated :)

If it were me, I'd buy a USB sound card instead of a software option.

Nah.. as long as I won't buy the Blue-Ray unit, there no use in having high performance hardware HD sound! But I still need the Dolby Digital and all the sound tools a DJ needs ! :D

I am from Malaysia. This may be the reason why the discount is more. I configure from high performance model.

I'm looking at page 164... what are they saying there ? Flash Cache Module ? Alias, Robson memory module ?!?! whaddya know ! :D

now my dilemma is to buy 3Gb of DDR or 2Gb DDR + 1Gb Robson ? Which combination would grasp the best performance out of this baby ?

I am not at present an owner but intend to buy it at the earliest.Actually I was going to place an order today but the sales rep has confused me.I am from india.
She says Inspiron 1520 ( T5250 model ) is santa rosa but not 64 bit .I really have no idea about it .She says 64 bits are not available in india but santa rosa is not.
Please reply so that I can be a owner at the earliest ;).

The T5250 is a Core 2 Duo, and thus it supports 64bit. The reps often don't have a clue what they are talking about.

Ahhhhh - I called them earlier today and every once and a while I try a Dell online chat rep in the hopes that someone will tell me its DDR3. So far - 2 phone calls and 3 online chat reps have all told me its DDR2. Maybe it's different in other countries but in Canada all I keep being told is DDR2.

    Hi everybody,
Glad I found this forum before ordering my 1520 :)

    So here it goes.
I've decided to get one mostly becouse of the 8600GT graphics chip. Not only do I want to play games, but more importantly I want to use it for webdesign purposes (photoshop).
    T7100, 1GB RAM (later upgrade), 120GB HDD, GF8600, DVD-RW, 9cell + 6 cell and a webcam are a must!

I got confused reading about the screen. So you guys are saying that the 1440x900 one has better parameters than the 1680x1050? I was sure of getting the 1680 (I need room on screen while designing) but if the 1440 is much brighter and has more contrast, I'm not sure what to do ...

The other thing are the coupons. Everybody wants to get a best deal - that's for sure. I used to check Dells coupons every once in a while and I thought that's the only way to get a bargain. Can someone tell me more about the student deals? Are these only for american students (I'm currently in US on a Work&Travel program)?? And what's the deal with calling the reps and getting even better deal? Can one get even a better deal than coupons method? Do they combine (coupons + ol' style bargaining ;) )???

What configuration would you guys suggest?

I'm also waiting for the after-4th-of-July coupons but so far there's nothing there ... Just days ago the deals for the E1505 included 2Gigs of Ram, 120HDD, DVD-RW ect. Do you think it'll take long time to get that kind of deals for the new E1520?

Sorry for so many questions at once :)

Ya the 1440x900 screen is brighter and better contrast.
but if you need the pixel room go for it. thats what i got. check out the 1520 - DV6500 comparason and you can see the diffrence in screens. its not THAT much darker.

You know what? It's gotta be DDR2. If it was DDR3 they would have mentioned it and people would have jumped all over it for the price. Smart on Nvidia's part for saying the 8600 gt supports both memory types, smarter on Dell for neglecting to mention which memory they are offering with the card.

blah. the rep i talked to today told me i couldnt get the $200 education discount with the $253, 12% and 7%, so i settled paying $1612 (after tax, free shipping) for:

    T7300 2.0Ghz 800mhz FSB
1GB ram (bought 4GB today for $170 wooot)
    8600GT 256MB
    1440x900 resolution
    intel 3965 wireless
    bluetooth
    jet black

estimated ship date is august 2, but the rep told me that was in the worst case scenario and dell usually beats the date. he told me he would tell his manager to expedite the order too. pretty nice guy, but i was bummed about the rebate.

Hmmm well here it's like 350 for a good set of RAM.

I'd have to sell the RAM that comes with it, they don't put 2x1G sticks, And I don't want to have 1GB until I can get the 4..

It's probably around 250 more expensive, but I'd rather get it from Dell...

qwerty4444 did you notice you can save up to 8% with the Dell EPP?

Doesn't the 1520 only come with the 32 bit OS, thus meaning you can't take advantage of all 4gb of RAM anyway?

it is possible to get the 200 dollar off and the 292 off and the epp % off, you just have to talk to the right people. i did it over a course of 4 or 5 hours on the phone but alot of the time was just finding the right person. I just bought my notebook (below) today.

Their online deals just ended on AU, making it more expensive for buyers.

Makes the same price with the EPP though.
How do you get 200 and 292 off?

And if it's 32bit OS, I'll delete it and install 64bit edition.

Hey guys! I just saw this picture of this dude's Inspiron where the colour/paint on the keyboard and palmrest area had worn off after a few months of use. Do you guys know anything about the chasis and the texture? Has Dell done something about it yet? I am going to be ordering my 1520 in the next few days, and it's goin to be my first Dell so I was just having some doubts about the overall build quality.. Somebody please reassure me! Thanks.. :)
