perf class 2 versus perf class 3. question is, will there really be a noticeable difference between the 8400 / 8600
-
Hi all,
I had just ordered mine yesterday. Expected to get it on 17th Jul. Wow! Never expect it will take so long. I had compared with other models, hp, Toshiba, Acer and I found it is the cheapest among all for the same spec. Hopefully, I will like it when it come!
Spec : T7300, 2 Gb, 160 Mb, Wireless N, 1280 X 800 matte display, 3 years completecover and Microsoft Office Basic for only MY 4993. (~1500 USD) -
What kind of discounts did you apply on yours?
-
-
it looks like there are some real advantages (mixing, Dolby Digital, EAX, number of effects, etc) even if the HD (only!) is software emulated -
-
Nah.. as long as I won't buy the Blue-Ray unit, there no use in having high performance hardware HD sound! But I still need the Dolby Digital and all the sound tools a DJ needs !
-
I am from Malaysia. This may be the reason why the discount is more. I configure from high performance model.
-
doesnt dell build them in malaysia and then ship them here?
-
Here's the 1520 owner's manual !
I'm looking at page 164... what are they saying there ? Flash Cache Module ? Alias, Robson memory module ?!?! whaddya know !
now my dilemma is to buy 3Gb of DDR or 2Gb DDR + 1Gb Robson ? Which combination would grasp the best performance out of this baby ? -
I should be ordering mine in about a week, any guesses on when mine will ship?
-
I ordered mine on the 29th and its expected to be done and ship by the 16th of july.

Has anyone confirmed if Dell is going with DDR2 or GDDR3 on the 8600 GT's?
-
Ram is better than Robson, get the 3GB! -
Yes, I think so. Just found out that the expected delevered date of my order had been updated to 6th Jul. (from 17th). I think I will get it pretty soon. Hope yours will be in soon.
-
I am not at present an owner but intend to buy it at the earliest.Actually I was going to place an order today but the sales rep has confused me.I am from india.
She says Inspiron 1520 ( T5250 model ) is santa rosa but not 64 bit .I really have no idea about it .She says 64 bits are not available in india but santa rosa is not.
Please reply so that I can be a owner at the earliest.
-
The T5250 is a Core 2 Duo, and thus it supports 64bit. The reps often don't have a clue what they are talking about.

jb1007: Same thing for me here in the US. =\
-
Just ordered mine about 2 hours ago, so here's to my new purchase!
Now if they would just invent some sort of instantaneous shipping.
*lounges in lounge* -
Yoos; if you don't mind me asking, what's the est'd ship date in your confirmation?
-
Hi everybody,
Glad I found this forum before ordering my 1520
So here it goes.
I've decided to get one mostly becouse of the 8600GT graphics chip. Not only do I want to play games, but more importantly I want to use it for webdesign purposes (photoshop).
T7100, 1GB RAM (later upgrade), 120GB HDD, GF8600, DVD-RW, 9cell + 6 cell and a webcam are a must!
I got confused reading about the screen. So you guys are saying that the 1440x900 one has better parameters than the 1680x1050? I was sure of getting the 1680 (I need room on screen while designing) but if the 1440 is much brighter and has more contrast, I'm not sure what to do ...
The other thing are the coupons. Everybody wants to get a best deal - that's for sure. I used to check Dells coupons every once in a while and I thought that's the only way to get a bargain. Can someone tell me more about the student deals? Are these only for american students (I'm currently in US on a Work&Travel program)?? And what's the deal with calling the reps and getting even better deal? Can one get even a better deal than coupons method? Do they combine (coupons + ol' style bargaining)???
What configuration would you guys suggest?
I'm also waiting for the after-4th-of-July coupons but so far there's nothing there ... Just days ago the deals for the E1505 included 2Gigs of Ram, 120HDD, DVD-RW ect. Do you think it'll take long time to get that kind of deals for the new E1520?
Sorry for so many questions at once -
Ya the 1440x900 screen is brighter and better contrast.
but if you need the pixel room go for it. thats what i got. check out the 1520 - DV6500 comparason and you can see the diffrence in screens. its not THAT much darker. -
-
I and everyone else are begging and pleading it not be ddr2 and be the ddr3!!
-
not even a mere $1 discount on July 4th !!
-
Actually, there was a 50 dollar discount when I called in today that the rep offered
-
blah. the rep i talked to today told me i couldnt get the $200 education discount with the $253, 12% and 7%, so i settled paying $1612 (after tax, free shipping) for:
T7300 2.0Ghz 800mhz FSB
1GB ram (bought 4GB today for $170 wooot)
8600GT 256MB
1440x900 resolution
intel 3965 wireless
bluetooth
jet black
estimated ship date is august 2, but the rep told me that was in the worst case scenario and dell usually beats the date. he told me he would tell his manager to expedite the order too. pretty nice guy, but i was bummed about the rebate. -

Hmmm well here it's like 350 for a good set of RAM.
I'd have to sell the RAM that comes with it, they don't put 2x1G sticks, And I don't want to have 1GB until I can get the 4..
It's probably around 250 more expensive, but I'd rather get it from Dell...
qwerty4444 did you notice you can save up to 8% with the Dell EPP?
http://dell.communicates.to/epp/au/ -
Doesn't the 1520 only come with the 32 bit OS, thus meaning you can't take advantage of all 4gb of RAM anyway?
-
lordofericstan Notebook Evangelist
it is possible to get the 200 dollar off and the 292 off and the epp % off, you just have to talk to the right people. i did it over a course of 4 or 5 hours on the phone but alot of the time was just finding the right person. I just bought my notebook (below) today.
-
Their online deals just ended on AU, making it more expensive for buyers.
Makes the same price with the EPP though.
How do you get 200 and 292 off?
And if it's 32bit OS, I'll delete it and install 64bit edition. -

I tried explaining the best i could in this thread
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=137627&highlight=just+bought+1520+epp
Its a somewhat long read and after spending a combined 10 hours on the phone to dell so I was pretty exhausted while writing it. If you have any questions pm me. -
Hey guys! I just saw this picture of this dude's Inspiron where the colour/paint on the keyboard and palmrest area had worn off after a few months of use. Do you guys know anything about the chasis and the texture? Has Dell done something about it yet? I am going to be ordering my 1520 in the next few days, and it's goin to be my first Dell so I was just having some doubts about the overall build quality.. Somebody please reassure me! Thanks..
-
-
I was just reading through the quote, notice it says DDR2 memory, there goes the DDR3
Thanks, Can't wait for it to be delivered...It seems everyone here is going to buy this laptop!
-
I ordered my 1520 today as well with the following specs:
Ruby red
Intel Core 2 Duo T7300
1GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2*** at 667MHz
High resolution 1680x1050
256MB NVIDIA GeForce Go 8600M GT
120GB SATA Hard Drive (5400RPM)
DVD+/-RW
Wireless Intel 3945

and supposedly shipping out on 07/24.

I am looking to upgrade
***For those wondering about the RAM: It does say DDR2 at checkout. -
They mean the video RAM
Some state that It's DDR3 and some DDR2, checkout says DDR2.. -
Let the comparisons begin! How much performance are we losing with DDR2?
-
Anyone tell me if this one will be a good lap for the basic college necessity, internet browsing, and a few games every now and then? New to Notebooks, first one.

I cannot wait to see some real 3DMark and hardcore games benchmarks.. it is my belief that 1520 will not even get scores as good as the MBP with 128Mb GDDR3
