I bought an Inspiron 1520 about 2 months ago. And so far, everything has been great (except from the endless fingerprints leftover by my 9 year old sister).

Thing is, I have NO idea what the average temperature should be.

As I type, my CPU temp flucuates from 33-37 Ceclius. When i'm gaming (on medium-max settings) my cpu temperature goes up to and ranges from 53-58 celcius.

I'm also assuming that the somewhat buzzy and a little noisey sound after a while is the fan kicking in (as it says the fan only kicks in when it gets too hot). And it actually rarely ever comes on, and when it does, it goes off quickly.

I'm just wondering if those temperatures are alright for what i'm doing. Also, the bottom of my laptop gets REALLY warm when gaming. If I touch the bottom long enough with my fingertips it makes me want to just let go.

I'm just curious as to if this is normal for a laptop. I'm probly going to get a cooling pad later.

    Right now my laptop has:

    2.0 intel 2 duo processor.
    2 gigs of RAM
And 256 8600 NVidia gt (whatever the highest one was when I got it)

Not sure what you're doing. you just said gaming, so i'm not sure what kind of loads your putting on the system, Crysis? Freecell?

Those temps are fine. when you start getting up into the high 70's you might want to invest in a cooler. mine gets hotter than that and mine is still in the acceptable zone.

    Have fun.

P.S. Give your sister some gloves.

The only 2 games I have (MMO's) are:

    City of Heroes/Villains
    The Matrix Online.

And the 55 was when I was playing The Matrix Online.

ahh. nothing too taxing on the system. you should be fine. the 8600 is a good GPU and that's where the heat is coming from. if you find it too hot, get a cooling pad. but it isn't doing any harm to your system, those temps are acceptable.

    hope that helped.

    P.S. Welcome To The Forums.

    Thanks.

I was just wondering. It just seemed like the bottom of it got TOO hot. I didn't know it was coming from the processor. Just worried about it actually doing damage to my system.

    Thanks again.

    1 Last thing.

I noticed that my GPU temperature cannot be accessed and the new nVidia nTuner will not work with vista.

So I have no idea how to see my GPU temperature.

I know my CPU (intel 2 duo processor) is running around 55 C when playing an MMO (55-60% CPU usage). But is that also a reflection of what my graphics card is running around?

And does anyone know when the nTuner will be available for Vista?

Mine gets substantially hotter than that, I would say you're fine.

Your temps are very good, most people idle around 50C.
