Need some help and/or links to any comprehensive tutorials
(clean install Windows Vista 32 bit to Windows 7 64 bit)
    * Inspiron 1520 specific or very similar inspiron that shares most hardware...

I'm gathering info before installing RAM and fresh hard drive - the performing clean install of windows 7 64 bit.
(Links to appropriate downloads compatible w 1520, if from different inspiron model???)

    1) Which of the Dell apps/utilities should I install (once on Win7 64bit)
ie: Dell support center 2.0, Quickst, mediaDirect, Diagnostic utilities, ect
** ARE There any Dell Thermal/Heat/Fan apps compatible w 1520?

    2) Device Drivers that don't work from Win 7 64bit drivers or are less than optimal/out of date
2a) Since 1520 is not supported 64bit win 7 model - are there other Inspiron models that were supported and shares hardware that I could use Drivers, Dell Upgrade Guides, Apps/utilities, ect from?

    thanks everybody..

Before you do anything, safely remove any information that you want to keep (including but not limited to): Documents, Music, Pictures, Videos. As this method will completely erase your main partition. Now, pop in the Windows 7 disc, format the main partition (C:\) and just click install. Once you are done there, get whatever drivers you can from Windows Update when you get to your desktop.

    1. Dell Utilities & Etc.
-- Dell Support Center 3.0 (DSC 3.0) is available now and that's what you'll need.
-- Quickset: I just ended up using the same Quickset that was supplied to XPS 1530 users.
-- MediaDirect: As long as you don't mess with the partition, it should still be there.
-- All other diagnostic utilities are available through DSC 3.0.

    2. Windows 7 Drivers: Inspiron 1520
-- I went ahead and uploaded the drivers that work for me and the ones that I ended up installing on my laptop.

    That's what I did when I upgraded to Windows 7 (64-Bit)

Man, thanks so much! Was grateful to even see someone bothered to reply- let alone actually hooking-up helpful stuff!!!
If I can't figure something out, would it be cool if I sent you a pm or something?
    Thanks again!

Yeah, that's fine, just post your specs of your laptop.
