Ok, So i just got an Inspiron 1520. I really do like the thing, Don't have any real problems except that on an even surface it tends to tilt back and forth topright-bottomleft, and it can be a tad loud even when it's not doing anything.
So, With the curent price drop of the XPS, should i try to return my 1520 for store credit and go for an XPS? i configured an XPS to pretty much the exact same specs as my inspiron for the same price. Just wondering If ya'll think it's a good idea or not, and i'm in Canada, so would i have to pay any restocking fees, or any crap like that?

Yes you will pay restocking fees. But if the XPS is the same price, then I would take that as it's built nicer and has much better support.

with your specs on your Inspiron 1520 it will be 100 dollars cheaper compared to the XPS m1530. And why did you upgrade to the 2gb RAM and not the slow 1.5ghz CPU. How well does the 1.5 Core 2 Duo Run games? If you could message me back i'd be grateful
-
The 1.5 is just fine. i can play Company of heroes with absolutely no lag at default specs. same with WoW at high specs, and HL2 at medium.
I'd only upgrade the Proc if i could get the 4MB cache, but that's an extra $150. The ram was default at 2GB's during my configuration, i didn't mind paying anyway.
So, I phoned dell, and they said i'd have to phone Dell Financial, turns out, because i paid off my laptop 100% yesterday, if i was to return it to dell, then dell would send Dell financial my money, than dell Financial would send me a cheque, She said it would be 4-8weeks. so, thats a pain in the ass, i can't just send them the laptop and get credit for the same amount in an account, unless there is some other way to do it? somebody special i have to get a hold of.
Now i'm not sure about what i should do. I just want an exchange, i don't want my money back, what a crazy company.
As for the restocking fee, the guy said 15% but he also said he could waive it, but who knows for sure. I can't take it as fact until it happens. -
I have returned quite a few systems and never was charged the restocking fee. Dell has it up on their site that they may charge the fee, but I have yet to see them do it.
If you can get a 1530 for the same price as your 1520, I'd do it in a hart beat! Might have same performance but the 1530 looks a lot nicer and has brushed aluminum and magnesium alloy throughout the chassis (premium materials), instead of lots of plastic -
I'm not sure if i want to wait the two months to get my money back.
Also, what about things like LoJack? It was part of my purchase, but has been activated, would i still get refunded that price? or would they subtract the money i spent on it? keep in mind it was built into my warranty?
Is there another way to do it besides waiting for a refund? can't they just take my laptop, give me an online account with that same amount credit? makes sense cause then they keep the money. Is there somebody i should try and get a hold of?
Keep in mind i only talked to a tech support person, i never got transfered to a return specialist.
Thanks. -
I really can't help you because I am not in Canada and don't know Dell.ca's policies.....
EDIT: sent you a pm - see if that will help -
Thanks. I sent an e-mail explaining my situation. Hopefully i receive a response. Also, My new configuration is $100 more. I decided if i do this, i might as well go for the 2.2GHz T7500. Lost Bluetooth and went from a 7200rpm back down to a 5400rpm drive. not really things i need anyway.
So, dell has a chance to earn another 100 bucks. hopefully they let me do this. -
Yep you would have to pay a restocking fee
Inspiron 1520 vs XPS 1530.
