Hey, guys, I'm having some problems with my charger. When I plug it in and turn the laptop on it says that it couldn't recognize the charger and won't charge, the laptop itself works, however. Sometimes it does charge, but rarely. I'm in a little hurry and didn't search thru the forum. Apologize if this issue was answered before.

    Thanks,

    Mimino

So it won't recognize the adapter, but it will still work? Does it do that with or without the battery in place?

If it is the adapter itself, there isn't much you can do, unfortunately.

Do you wrap the wires around the adapters a lot? Can you try wiggling the wires around (near the plug) to see if the laptop suddenly starts recognizing it?

It is possible the power connector where it meets the motherboard is starting to break away. You could also have a bad power brick or loose connection.

Is the light on the charger's block, green?

It could be any of the things, stated, or it could be
the power block, going bad, due to surges, or it was just a bad one.

Make sure your battery is seated correctly. and use the battery tester in the Diagnostics.

This has happened to me before, All i did was unplug it, restart the computer, andplug it back in. Also, make sure the green light on the power brick is glowing. If not, pull the connector out of the power brick and put it back in a couple times until the light shines green.

    Trouble Shooting for Unrecognized Adapter

    1. Check along the wire and the Adapter box for any signs of abrasion or physical damage.

2.Check the connection between the power cord and the Adapter box. Also the status LED's color.

3.Check the port in the laptop for any signs of damage and see if the Adapter connector is tight or wiggles.

    4. Connect the Adapter to the computer and open up BIOS and check whether both the battery and the adapter is recognized or it gives an unrecognized adapter error.

    5. Reseat the battery and the Adapter power cord and check if it works.

    6. Try flashing the BIOS once if possible, because I recall a bug in one of the older inspiron notebooks in which the adapter was recognized after the BIOS was flashed, but they would have most probably got it fixed by now.

If all of the above steps dont fix the problem, the Adapter has probably gone bad, Contact Dell Tech Support.

the adapter itself works fine (the green light is glowing), but the battery won't charge :( I'll have to mess around with the battery later on and will get back to you. thanks a lot, guys!

    Hey there!

So, the *brick is charging*?? I had this problem w/my 1530..The brick would charge, yet the battery itself would not hold a charge.

Is the adapter loose at all when connected to the 1520's/socket?

I honestly believe there was a problem with the internal socket on mine. However, when I called Support, they chose to replace the Motherboard vs. soldering the socket. After the technician came and replaced the Motherboard all was fine.

    Just a thought ;) :)

    Cin ;) :)

    @Cin'

I dont think they have any option to ask the tech to come and solder the motherboard, the tech can only be sent to replace a part.

But they would not discard your old motherboard either, they will take the part back to factory, repair it and use it to replace someone else's faulty mobo.
