So, heck Ive been following these threads since the order of my 1520 July 3rd. I changed the order from t7100 to the t7300 cpu on the 10th. Lappy was set for delivery the 15th and Ill have it tomorrow (18th). Here's the plan. After reading every thread possible based on the inspiron 1520 on this website, Ive learned some things. First things first, as Im familiar with partitioning, Im goign to cut out all of dells partitions and clean instal my Vista Home Premium with the dell reinstallation disk. Then Im going to dual boot with Vista Ultimate 64bit edition (retail). Im going to experiment a little bit here and see how things run on the 64bit OS on my second partition (If they run at all)Following krysterma (sp?) posts, Ive slipstreamed the drivers into my xp pro OS and after Im done fudging around with the 64bit OS partition, Im going to wipe it clean and attempt to install my slipstreamed xp pro onto the second partition. If anyone has any questions at all, about the 64 bit OS functioning or using krysterma's drivers, slipstreaming etc, feel free to post and Ill get back to you tomorrow after I get the lappy.

1520 is crap when it comes to using the headphone jack. if you are planning to use headphones, understand there will be uncomfortable noises when plugged in... whether you mute or not.
just letting you know ahead of time. -
Not really planning on it. But are you saying they're all defective? Ill tell ya what, my stickers better be put on straight too!
-
I guess it would be nice to listen to some tunes while Im doing some programming in the library. I hope theyre not all defective
Maybe I dont want to get my lappy tomorrow.
-
I think the issue is cheap earbuds, not the jack itself.
-
Well Im off to pass-the-fook-out. I work 7am-2pm tomorrow, hopefully dhl doesnt come before then. I plan on keeping in good contact with them all day tomorrow at work.

Hey buddy, I'm planning on getting a similar build but I want to know how much you paid along what coupon codes and discounts you used.
Thanks in advance. -
o and btw, when watching the dell website, my laptop was never in a "testing" or "boxing" stage. it just went from "in production" to shipped. Perhaps they gave me one already built that someone cancelled.
-
I used the $300 off coupon on the 3rd and got the free 3-5 day shipping also. As I have seen prices on here, I dont think it's policy not to post prices; so my prices after NY tax and such was $1,340.
-
still waiting...dhl blows
-
just got her in, i feel like Im 13 again and getting my N64
-
so im wiping the partitions out now and reformatting. so far no chirping, runs quiet even if i stick my head right next to the cpu exhaust fan. Not a scratch at all and yes, my stickers are straight!
Also, the grainyness is the pixels! The screen is so clear, that yes, the pixel structure is able to be seen! Which means yes its a great screen, and yes it does appear grainy, hence the downfall of having such a great screen!
-
In order to reformat your drive on partition 1 of the system, you need to run a proggy called killdisk. Somehow, the samsung drive has a hidden partition on it, invisible to windows. When I attempted to format, vista kept saying it was on partition 2 although no other partitions were visible. Hope someone finds this info useful as noone has posted in awhile.

Thanks for the updates, I will tag this for future reference.
