Just like the title said, will upgrading my cpu from the T5450(1.66ghz) to a T7500(2.2ghz) change my gaming performance or is the T5450 enough power to fully run my videocard.

I OC my videocard by 30% so the clocks are 617.5Mhz/520Mhz instead of 475/400mhz, does the ocing get bottle necked by the weak cpu?

Is it worth the $100 to upgrade my cpu or should i just save the money and buy a new laptop because my 1520 is almost 2 years old but it's a very good laptop, i can get 4700 and sometimes even 4850 on 3dmark06.

I'm fairly certain the T5450 isn't going to be significantly bottlenecking your OC'ed 8600. You probably won't see a much of a performance boost going to a T7500.

Really, not even a small boost? like 15%?

Anyway was just asking this because my cpu gets extremely hot compared to my gpu and i was going to open it up again to change the thermal paste on the cpu, but thought if i was going to do that why not change the cpu as well.

maybe 15% difference.. depends on you if you see the expense of changing CPU worth the 15% difference. The difference will be that you'll be able to turn up things like Physics, Real Trees and Fire effect in Far Cry 2 for example. These are the main things which require a better CPU. I'd say if you feel it's worth it, go for it :) But THEN you'll have a better CPU than GPU i think(not exactly sure)

I would say it depends on which games you are talking about. Some games have a lot of work for the CPU to do as well as the GPU, so you'd notice a difference with these. Games such as Crysis, Prototype, Far Cry 2, etc which involve a lot of series processing will benefit. By how much, that's difficult to say. I would say it's not going to be masses, but 15% might not be out of reach. The question you have to ask yourself is, does a potentially small improvement in gaming outweight the cost of the new CPU?

Personally, I'd rather put that money into a savings account toward a new gaming machine.

Thats what i was thinking, I'm currently saving up for a Force 3551 because i can get the configuration i want for about $1100 CAD with shipping included.

That laptop is a great choice but if i save up and wait, something better might come along in October.

Still gotta change that thermal paste on my cpu.

I think the core i5 & i7 will have a rather dramatic impact on the price of notebooks so that come October you will most likely be better off saving for a new machine.

how can I overclock my 1737's ATI 3650?

and yes Fragile the value of a Core 2 Duo based Studio 17 dropped 50% today, ouch those Core i7's will be killer

the slowest core i7 is 74% faster than a T9600

Get ati tool, there is version 0.27b4 which i use on my 8600m gt to overclock it, just test it out by overclock percentages, i went up to 34% before it started getting artifacts in the tester. Just have a calculater around to get your numbers for the core and mem clocks

It actually worked tho, raised my 3dmark06 score from 3700 to 4850 but i actually game at about 30% which is a score of 4700 or at 25% which is a score of 4500, not bad for a 22-27% increase in gaming performance but you need to have a laptop cooler for this or live in a cold area, because it makes your laptop Hot, i also use 18kfangui and force my laptop fans to max 24/7.

Wow didn't realise you could use ATi tool on a 8600m GT. Shame it doesn't work for my 4330. I'm seriously considering the HP Envy 15 when it releases in the UK soonish, hopefully there wont be any need to overclock the 4830 which comes with that.
