    Greetings everyone!

It seems my Dell Inspiron 1521 laptop's screen is having issues. When I turn it on it will flash the dell loading logo for only a moment then it goes black, however it is not completely black because you can see the log in icons very faintly.

Now what I've done is I hooked up my laptop to my Acer monitor and it works fine then I purchased a new inverter and fixed that and it still didn't do the job. I have a feeling that it may be the back-light bulb but before I get into that sticky situation I was wondering if anyone else had any other suggestions that I could try? :'(

    Thanks for everyone's help!

(yes, before someone asks I did try the FN ↑ ↓ :D)

If you've got a new inverter (and you're sure that new inverter isn't a dud), you're basically down to the backlight. There's a very slim chance you could have an issue with the display cable, but I doubt it.

    Hello StephMB,

My name is Anue and I work for the Social Media and Community Team at Dell.

We see that you have tried replacing the inverter, but the issue still persists and as you also confirm that the display is fine on an external monitor, hence it clearly indicates that the screen is faulty.
However, to confirm the same, you could try a few steps like.
•Getting into the BIOS screen by tapping on the F2 key and check if the display is fine.
    •Running the diagnostics.
Please click on the below link , it would take you to a page, which has the instructions to run the diagnostics.

Kindly update the results, we would be more than glad to assist you.
