Hye folks! So, I've got myself an Inspiron 1521, as described in my signature hopefully, and have been doing some memory upgrades, amongst other things. It came stock with 1Gb.

So come to find out, probably common knowledge to everyone else, but there are only 2 memory ports or whatever one should call them. Mine had a 512Kb stick in each port. For some reason I was envisioning 4 different ports, with the specs saying that the memory is upgradable to 4Gb. So aside from that, what I want to do is to get 2 2Gb sticks, from New Egg. And though it probably doesn't matter and probably will fit and work fine, just wanted to pass this by anyone/everyone in case it strikes a chord with someone as not being right. The sticks are GeIL 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM 667 (PC2 5300). Link http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...ryType=0&Pagesize=10&SelectedRating=-1&Page=2

Apparently nice little heat deflectors are built in also, wasn't necessarily anything I wanted originally, but do they make a difference in how the sticks fit into the machine? I've read that some people have had to remove the heat shields to install memory.

So - just to pick anyones brain. Thanks .

As long as the memory fits in the slot with the heat deflectors, it should be working fine. If not, removing it might make the memory overheat, which is not recommended. :)

EDIT : SORRY, I got your model number confused with the older 1501. Please disregard everything I said in my previous post.

Maximum memory should be 4 GB, with 2 2-GB memory in each slot.

I didn't think I was going crazy, but I did question it for a moment there.

No you weren’t; it was me who went crazy (read your model as 1501 instead of 1521).... way passed midnight over here.. think I should hit the sack now... .

1521 DOES support 4GB. Sorry for the confusion....

I also am upgrading my Inspiron 1521 memory to 2 GB, but only found one memory slot on the underside of the computer.

Can you tell me where I might find the second memory slot? When I've upgraded on other computers, usually the slots are right next to each other.

    Thanks for your help!

P.S. Also, is the 1521 upgradeable to 4 GB of memory? If so, that's even better....when I bought it, I was told that 2 GB was the max.

^Thanks....I finally slogged through the manual and found the instructions--what a bad piece of engineering that was to make the 2nd slot so inaccessible!

Actually its better as the bottom of the laptop does not get as hot. Lots of laptops are like this now days.
