    Hey everyone!

I didn't have a bluetooth module in my 1525 when I got it last year, and I decided to get one not too long ago. My Dell 355 arrived yesterday but I just can't make it work (I have WinXP).

First of all, right after I put the device in the notebook and turned it on, Windows added a HID keyboard and a HID mouse to my devices, which messed up my keyboard actually. Left Crtl, F1, and "zero" buttons are not functioning, the rest of them seem to be OK.

As an addition, Bluetooth is just not working. I have the R161378 driver installed right now, but I tried R127314 too, without success (I used Paragon to replace the C:\ partition when I was about to instal them, so there's no chance they could mess up each other).

Both installed properly, device manager could find the module, My Bluetooth Places was added, but when I try "Add a Bluetooth Device", an error message comes up saying " Your Bluetooth device could not start the search for devices." I hit OK as it's the only option and get back to the previous screen.

Then I try " View Devices In Range", and another error message shows up:
" Bluetooth license check failed. Please make sure that the Bluetooth device is plugged in/turned on, the device you are using is licensed for this software and that your license has not expired" (Widcomm patcher 2.O couldn't work with this driver)

Yesterday I could pair my smartphone with the notebook somehow (the same error messages showed up though). The funny thing is that with this driver I could only send files from the phone to the notebook (I could even listen to mp3s that were on the phone through the notebook's speaker), then, with the other driver, I could only send stuff from the notebook to the phone.

Most of the time I was trying with a Samsung i9OO Omnia, but the same errors occured with a LG KG8OO.

I really have no idea what to do from now on, I feel like I've tried everything. Maybe a different driver would do the trick, but I googled all night, and couldn't find an alternative

Please help me out with this thing. All suggestions are much appreciated.

    Hey there, chaku!

I couldn't figure out what's wrong, I'm about to remove the BT device actually. I really don't have any more ideas, so I guess I'll have to get rid of this crappy 355, and get something else. The question is: which BT device should I buy then?! I don't wanna waste my money this time...

I just got the 355 today so i'll bee a few days before giving up on it ;)

Just uninstalled the dell drivers fully and installed BlueSoleil 6 to confirm that the matter is software/driver related and was able to successfully connect my phone form the laptop and transfer files as expected . BlueSoleil, of course, is commercial software and I can't say I like the interface much so I'll be removing the trial version and see if i can magically fix the issue with the native Dell drivers/software.

At least I know the hardware works as expected ;)

Latest on this is that I decided to revert to the microsoft stack to get it operational:

    1. Uninstalled all drivers (Dell Widcomm) and rebooted
    2. Ignored the driver detection wizard upon reboot (to perform step 3 :) )
    3. Modified C:\WINDOWS\inf\bth.inf as it didnt have an entry for the 355 (only the 350; so i copied that line and modified it for the 355) so the [Dell.NT.5.1] section now looks like this :
    [Dell.NT.5.1]
Dell TrueMobile Bluetooth Module= BthUsb, USB\VID_413C&PID_8000
    Dell Wireless 350 Bluetooth Module= BthUsb, USB\VID_413C&PID_8103
    Dell Wireless 355 Bluetooth Module= BthUsb, USB\VID_413C&PID_8126
    4. Followed the hardware installation wizard ignored in step 2

Installation was successful and All seems to be well discovering my phone.

I know there are pros and cons to both bluetooth stacks but this is working for me for now.

The hunt continues for the cause of the original issue!
