    Hi,

I got Inspiron 1525 about two months ago. From that time I have been noticing high temperatures but didn`t care much. Averest shows idle temperature 45C and on load about 82C and sometimes 90C.

I started playing WoW from this morning and the cpu fan started running on full speed after 2 minutes in the game. Also laptop turned off suddenly twice today maybe because of CPU overheat.

I already tried "SpeedFan" but it has no support for Dell motherboard. What should I do?

    Thanks,
    EnLi

Edit: I live in India and ambiance temperature is high here, 20-30 C.

Have you tried cleaning the vents and fan yet? Could help a bit. If it doesn't, you might want to contact Dell.

Unfortunately the Dell Inspirons aren't the coolest running laptops, and being a hot climate doesn't help the matter. I would suggest a laptop cooling pad for when you apply a heavy load to the laptop (eg, WoW). Don't have much experience with fan utilities, maybe another member will have suggestion.

I cleaned up the vents this morning. Didnt help.

Lets say if I contact Dell about the matter, what would be the process? I mean how many days will it take to sort out the problem? And will I have to give them laptop for servicing?

maybe a notebook stand with small fans in it will help. also follow Dell's safety instruction of using your inspiron only on flat, solid surface, and having 4 inches clearance at the back and all other sides.

The CPU in my 1520 never gets above 70C under full load during a game. The GPU never gets above 65C.

Have you tried I8KFanGUI? That works with the Dell laptops.

I have the same laptop, I use "Power Saver" for the battery mode and a laptop cooler, works pretty well with me. Fan never turns on and laptop stays pretty cool. I would suggest you do those two things and see if it helps.

    Thanks for all the replies.

I keep laptop on a computer table i have which has 1 foot clearance from the wall at backside and literally infinite from other sides.

I tried to use I8kFanGui but it doesnt show the fan readings, so I guess it doesnt work with Inspiron 1525.

I use Kaskersky Antivirus and Output firewall combination which so far worked great. This morning I disabled Kaspersky Antivirus temporary while playing "WoW" and laptop run smoothly till the end of the game (5 hours, I guess). It would turn off after 30 minutes of gameplay before. and is running at 83C while playing WoW. This is acceptable workaround for me, sure its a little hassle.

Do you still recommend I should get it checked? Anybody from India confirm the temperatures?

And I have problem on Studio 1535.
I had Windows XP and BIOS V05 - temperature normal. I update Bios to V06 and the same install Windows Vista. Now my laptop is very very hot. CPU is ~80'C, but I just open Opera, MS Word.
Maybe that is Bios V06 problem?

BIOS updates cannot just raise your average temperatures like that. What were your temperatures when you had the A05 BIOS?

I found myself the surface here play big role.
When I use my notebook (Studio 1535 Vista X64) in my second home - for example HDD temp is around 34-36 C.
Now in my private home much better surface - my HDD is very often on 31 C.
The same situation with GPU,CPU and...

By the way in one train my notebook was in on my legs and strangely the CPU temperature was 60 C,after restart it slow down to 45..
But anyway different surface different temperatures

Before was temperature normal. I do not know how many exactly, but the surface was only warm. Now surface (left front) is hot, bottom burn.

Like I say, that's just not something that a BIOS upgrade can do.
