I have a 1525 as well. I have not had any issues with audio while playing through "Windows Media Player. Winamp, VLC," or even web based audio. So you might wanna try a few different things. First, I would see if there is any driver updates. Secondly, Try something other then Windows Media Player and see if the problem is still there. If the problem is not present when using something else, you no its a Windows Media issue. If Its still there afterwards it could be numerous problems "Bad hardware. Corrupt drivers, etc. Hope this helps

The crackling sound is an issue between the sigmatel driver and media player. You should disable the enhancements option to remove the crackling sound. It doesn't matter if you don't have any enhancements ticked, as long as the enhancement option is on, you'll still encounter this crackling sound. You can do this by right clicking on the volume icon on your taskbar, click playback devices, click on the sigmatel codec for audio output, then click properties, then click the enhancement tab then tick disable all enhancements.
