I have the integrated webcam on my inspiron laptop. It used to work, but noticed recently that when you open the Webcam centre the screen is black. If you click capture, it makes the taking photo noise and then an error message apppears "Unable to capture a photo. Please reconnect your camera and try again"
I have tried up dating the drivers for the webcam and reloading the webcam manager. I have also used Dell' help system and downloaded some utilities software update. Nothing has changed. The webcam blue light comes on still but thats it.
    Can anyone help?
    much appreciated,
    Clare

I have same problem. I have dell support trying to help. Seems one of the updated drivers are not compatible with the video. We are working on the solution, They are sending a file that we are unable to download which may be part of the problem. r168730 seems to be the problem but we have not yet resolved.

Did you switch the oeprating system? The webcam on my 1520 will NOT work with XP but works fine with vista.

With the help of Dell Tech support I reinstalled Vista and followed their guidelines for reinstall of all drivers. Took less than 2 hrs and everything works fine. I usually like to update drivers but i will refrain, I think that's what set of the problem. If you are still under warranty that's the way to go. There is a conflict in there, even Dell didn't know where. Dell's drivers disk is very specific about which drivers to install first. Take your time, it's no big deal.

If you are past the warranty, hopefully you have CD's. I had to reinstall some programs but everything was saved to windows.old directory and I have slowly been getting rid of the 50 gigs of old files.

I just rececntly experienced the same problem and I came across your entry you posted. I don't know if you have already resolved your issue, but this is what I had to do:

-go into the settings menu and click on the "general" tab"

-click on "browse" and change the folder your pics go to.

This worked for me because, for some reason, I couldn't access my webcam folder anymore.
