    1525 never offered a motherboard with discreet graphics. I doubt you will find a motherboard that offers discreet graphics that will fit. You would be wise to save up for a new laptop.

    Inspiron 1525 has an expresscard slot, so can do a DIY ViDock. The cheapest HD5670 setup would be ~$140.

    Because it's a DIY (Do It Yourself) and not exactly promoted/supported by Dell. Do at your own risk!

    Not sure if the Dell Support team know or even if they did whether they would advise such aftermarket upgrades. Now based on this output and the 1525 schematic, you may have a port layout as:

    port1=wifi or wwan
    port2=wifi or wwan
    port5=expresscard

    Meaning, could do a x2/x2E setup using 2xPM3N (mPCIe) adapters or could do a x1E setup with an ATI card. Inspiron 1525 should have a dualIDA overclock capable bios as well to give you another 8-13% performance. There's also a PLL pinmod Inspiron 1525 example.

    EDIT: It's simple enough to hook up. See Getting Started section in http://forum.notebookreview.com/gam...18851-diy-vidock-experiences.html#post5324240 .

    Apologies. If the DIY ViDock's Getting Started section is too complex, then consider a Villagetronic 3/4/4+ instead. Though at their prices you may consider a system upgrade instead.

    Basically it's using the Expresscard Slot for external graphics card if your motherboard cannot be upgraded. It's very complex and not to be attempted if you have no idea what you are doing. I would save up for a new system.

    Well just make sure you buy the Dell extended warranty, nothing like buying a 2400 dollar Alienware to die 3 days after the warranty expires.

    You could also consider Clevo based notebooks as the video cards CAN be upgraded.

    I doubt it unless you purchased an extended one through Dell. 1525 came out summer 07 to I believe 08 when it was replaced by the 1545, go to support.dell.com and punch in your Service Tag and go to System Configuration.

    Hrm weird. Go into your BIOS (press F2 right after you see the Dell logo) and it will display your Service tag there.
