I'm 99.9% positive that it can't, but is there any chance that the grpahics card in the 1525 can be replaced, or is it soldered to the motherboard?

It's soldered to the motherboard. In fact, I don't even think the 1525 ever shipped with discrete graphics?

So then my only option other than to use the 128MB shared graphics is to buy a better laptop?

    Pretty much.

I mean, there are things you could try like external graphics or hacking a 1520 mobo into your chassis, but I'm almost certain that none of these sort of things will be practical or even work. So yeah, new laptop is probably your best bet.

Taken from the service manual for the 1525 here.

The graphics solution, whether using the Intel or ATi solution (depending upon your CPU), is not user upgradeable though to the best of my knowledge.

I've got the Intel one, which pretty much sucks. Maybe once I start forking in a little more cash I'll enter the market for a more powerful one.

That would be my suggestion if you are finding your current machine restrictive. With the upcoming launch of mobile core i7s and core i5s, current hardware prices are bound to drop so there will no doubt be bargains to be had.
