I have removed the cover on the back of my 1525, I notice that besides the wifi card (DW 1395) there is an empty space and three unused wires, 1 blue, 1 grey, 1 white; what are they for? Maybe 802.11n?

    Cheers

If the XPS M1530 is anything like the M1330 then it is for your WWAN (Wireless Wide Area Network - I think that's what it stands for) card. Such as AT&T, Verizon, etc. Instead of having a little USB-dongle it is integrated into the laptop. Pretty good design move on the part of Dell. Ahead of other companies IMHO.

Well, it makes sense, there is a WWAN mark in that area too, and I didn't know what it referred to. Thanks

Any chance of replacing the existing Dell 1395 card with a more performing Intel 4965 AGN?
Can I use one of those unused wires as a third antenna?

Yes, you can and one of those wires IS the third antenna. Not sure which one though.

Just hooked up a new Intel 4965AGN to my Dell Inspiron 1525. I only have TWO wires for WLAN - black and white - NO GREY WIRE. WiFi works fine with those two hooked up.

My questions is if I can use one of the other antennas for the middle, n-antenna on the card? The only other antennas are 2 for WWAN (black/grey and white/grey, I think) and a blue one for UWB (ultrawide band, I guess). I have the blue UWB wire hooked up now and the device functions, but I have no way of testing whether it's working to give me better reception and the ability to connect to N networks or not.

Is this an OK setup, or should I buy a grey antenna purpsoed for 802.11n? If so, I've heard it works best when you run it up through the screen casing. Any advice on how to do that?

    Thanks!
