My niece has a DELL INSPIRON 1545 and recently the Backlight has stopped working. It works when you start up the Laptop but only for a few seconds (you see the DELL startup logo) then goes out. You can see the screen/laptop working if you shine a torch onto it. Occasionally the Backlight will flash on for a second without even moving the laptop or if you close the lid and open it again but only occasionally.
So the backlight does work but won't stay on!!!
I have checked the fuse (as described in other threads) and it's ok.
THANKS IN ADVANCE!

do you have a LED screen or a CCFL screen

Hi sorry for the delayed reply.
It's a CCFL(LCD) screen! -
FIXED IT!!!
OK guys after taking the whole laptop apart and checking every connection and cable then putting it back together again; STILL NO FIX. Then after reading many other posts the INVERTER was mentioned a fair few times. So I took it out and checked it over with a meter reader and everything seemed OK. Then I gave it a gentle RE-HEAT with a RE-Flow Station (a smaller version of a hot air gun used for electrical and BGA rework) and it worked.
So I'm guessing it could have been a loose connection or a dry joint on the INVERTER but it done the trick for me.
HOPE THIS HELPS OTHER'S WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. Your local electrical repair shop should have a RE-Flow Station.
