    Hi

Last week I purchased a Dell Inspiron 1545 Laptop at Carrefour supermarket in Spain. The laptop is brand new however it was an ex display model and came without a battery. I therefore ordered a Dell battery online (not from the Dell site) which was supposed to be original and for the 1545.

    On the battery it says:

    Dell Battery Module

    Type: GW240

    Rating 14.8V

    Capacity 28Wh

However when I insert the battery I get the following warning message

“WARNING: The battery is non recommended battery.
The system will be unable to charge this battery”.

It gives me the option of pressing F1 to continue which when I do so and get to windows I get the following message:

“The model number of the primary battery is non-recommended. The battery cannot provide sufficient power to run the system on battery mode. Please insert a Dell 56wh battery or higher for best system operation”

I therefore have been in contact with the supplier of the battery and he confirms that it is an original Dell battery, however is asking me the following question

What are the volts and capacity of the battery that came with the laptop?

As I have not got the original battery I would be grateful if someone with an original battery, could kindly supply me with this information. I can then reply to the seller and hopefully get a refund, so that I can purchase one from the Dell website which is what I should have done in the first place.

    Thanks in advance

    Rob

Tell him you have a type X284G battery rated at 11.1 volts with a 48Wh capacity. (the 6-cell battery)

They specs you listed are for the 4 cell battery, which I can confirm works perfectly fine in an Inspiron 1545. However, it really sounds like it is an aftermarket battery (and a shoddy one since it doesn't communicate correctly with the laptop) and not an original Dell battery.

Can you get a picture? Also carrefour isn't a supermarket.

Thanks for your reply sounds like you are right its probably a faulty or non original Dell battery. Have returned battery today and will hopefully get a refund.
One question I see that there are different voltages on batteries for the Inspiron 1545 for instance the 4 cell has both 11.1V and 14.8V where as the 6 and 9 cells has 11.1V. Is the voltage dependent on a specific model of the Dell Inspiron 1545 or can you use both?
Oh by the way your right Carrefour is not a supermarket it´s a hypermarket. :)
    Cheers
