Hoping someone can help me with an issue replacing my hard drive.

After my hard drive gave up I have purchased a replacement from e-buyer and fitted it in to my 1545 which appeared straight forward. However on starting the laptop i now only get the following message: "Memory write/read failure at 54004008, read EF02EF00 expecting EF00EF00. To resolve this issue try to reseat the memory. Decreasing available memory"

The cursor then flashes for a short time before the machine starts beeping.

As a complete IT novice can anyone suggest if this sounds like a probelm with the drive or just the fitting. I have tried to remove and replaec the drive to see if the drive would re seat but continue with the same error message.

Any ideas or comments would be gratefully received.

    Thanks

If you have memory read errors, why are you replacing the hard drive? Try with known good memory and see if you get the errors. If you get the errors with known good RAM then you have a defective motherboard.
