My brother's 1545 just froze last night and when I reset it the screen was all messed up with what looks like LCD fractures. I plugged it into an external monitor and, sure enough, it works fine. So after talking with Dell for a couple of hours they insist that it is accidental damage and that it must have been dropped, which it wasn't, and say that the screen is not covered under the basic warranty anyway.

Long story short, would eBay be the best place to buy a replacement LCD?

I usually just look for the cheapest place. Usually that's eBay, but if there's some obscure site selling a part significantly cheaper, I may consider jumping on it. I just try to always pay with Paypal; they will give you back your money in 99% of the cases you're unhappy with what you got, it just takes forever.
