i have an inspiron 1545 with intel 5100 card. I was using windows xp before but now i upgraded to windows 7 64bit home premium. I downloaded the intel wireless software and the installation cannot start, it keeps giving me an error and i don't know why. I've tried both the 32bit and 64 version of the software and still the same problem! why is this happening?

What exactly does the error or problem says? I know I used in my 1525 used the Dell 1505 wifi card and that is something that should work in the 1545 as well. Was the 5100 the original card that came with the laptop?

I tried the 32 bit and 64 bit versions of the software and none of them works then i remember that i had a similar problem when i tried to install the wireless drivers way back when i switched this laptop's OS from the preloaded vista to windows xp. I remember that i downloaded the drivers from the official intel site and those worked. So that's what i did again and it worked.

So the problem is with dell's drivers, you need to download the drivers and software from intel and it will work.

huh...who is having the problem here?? I doubt it is dell or intel driver issues. Also your went from Vista to XP that kinda downgrade isn't going to improve your computing but taking steps backward since your laptop had Vista a more then decent O/S to have. Also I installed dell intel wifi drivers and had no problems in Laptop that came with XP and went to W7 and installed Dell intel wifi and those drivers worked only reason to go Intel wifi drivers is to get the latest drivers. I think your wifi card might not be working anymore.
