I shut down my Inspiron 1545 a week ago and when shutting down installed the 2 updates...No problems - shut down just fine. tried to start up the next day and the screen reads "Updates not configured properly - reverting changes do not shut off computer." I cannot get on even in safe mode. Ran the diagnostic tests and everything passed. Help!

what happens when u just wait when it is reverting changes??

there are some cases when updates screwed up the booting and even gave some BSOD.

the most effective is system restore (which u cant without booting.)

since you cant, u can reinstall the os.. which will 100% fix the problem.

seems liek it is not the hardware fault. although it COULD be a bad sector in hdd, but i doubt it. prob software fault.

u got warranty? if u do call them up

I had it running for 24 hours and it did nothing. Unfortunately the warrenty has run out and Dell is of no help.

If diagnostics passed, likely a bad/corrupt update. Can you F8 and Repair my Computer and do a system restore?

Well if you do that and you haven't backed up your data, you are gonna lose all your data. Try to get it into a bootable state or Linux live disc or extract the drive and hook it up via USB to a working computer and back up your data first then reimage it.
