Hello, I've browsed the discussions and have seen problems similar to, but not exactly the same as, my problem, hence the new thread.
Problem: I have a brand new Inspiron 1545 from Dell online. When I type text in Internet Explorer (e.g. webmail applications or this forum), even at a relatively slow speed, many of the keys don't seem to register -- that is, letters or spaces whose keys I press do not show up on the screen. As a result, I must type verrry slowly to make sure that every letter/space shows up, or else go back to re-type it. Strangely, I do not have this problem when typing text in, say, Notepad. Very annoying. Anyone have ideas?
Also, previously, we had the issue that others have described elsewhere - where new tabs open (in IE) randomly, even when we have not typed Control-T. We disabled the circular scrolling/zoom feature on Del Touchpad -- so far, so good. We'll see.
Thanks for any ideas!

If the problem is only happening in Internet Explorer then the problem is probably related to IE. Try using firefox and see if the problem still happens and let us know.
Also, let us know about the touchpad thing; I remain convinced that this is simply an oversensitive touchpad - which can be changed. I've done so with mine and have had no problems at all; but I'm eager to get to the bottom of this one because, as you say, there are a few people on these forums that seem to be struggling with it. -
Thanks for your advice, Fragilexx. Apologies for the delay -- actually, I couldn't find my post again until just now! :|
We downloaded Mozilla and things seem to be "okay" now. Although, even before we downloaded Mozilla, and while still using IE, things seemed to be better the following day. That is, we could type fast, and only on occasion did some letters get missed. Is it possible that when we first encountered the problems, it was because the laptop was brand new? I wouldn't know why this would be, but thought I'd ask.
As for the touchpad - so far, still good. Although out of nowhere, yesterday, a "compose message" window randomly popped up to a friend we weren't even intending to contact! This could have happened by us accidentally hitting some combination of keys, but I can't think of what keys we would've needed to hit in order to do that. We were using Hotmail at the time.
Thanks again! -
The keypad can cause a lot of problems. I have it set to move the cursor and only the cursor. Otherwise weird things happen when I don't realize I touched it the wrong way or it will do something I don't want it to do. Worth a shot.

Thanks, Trottel!
Yes, I disabled all the "fancy" features (zooming & scrolling). Is this what you mean? So far, it seems to be doing the trick! -
Hi there,I have the same issues wen typnig using the interet.I have a new studio 1555.Dell send me a new keyboard to replace but still have the sam problm.
Before I download firefox, did anybody ele have the same issues?
This sucks, have to go back and correct my typing everytime -
You are absolute LEGENDS!! I was going bonkers-having exactly the same problem with IE, missing out over half of the letters and characters i was typing, and it was running slower than it should do too. Downloaded firefox and it's PERFECT! I tried contacting Dell since i've only had my laptop 2 months and i was expecting them to fix it free of charge but the customer service is appauling and they said i had to pay a charge of £67 for them to do a 'software check' to diagnose the problem. Now i can tell them to bog off-THANK YOU! x
