So I have a Dell Inspiron 15R with a P6100 inside of it, I happen to have a spare P9700 processor can it be installed in this laptop? Thanks.

No P9700 is a Core 2 Duo socket P, while P6100 is socket G1, a Pentium based Arrandale chip. If you have integrated graphics, the highest you can go is a dual core i7, but you should be able to upgrade to any 1st gen i3/i5 as well.
