Got an inspiron 5010 a month ago now with i740qm bios A12
The cpu gets to 65 degrees very quickly on normal use, at this temperature the fan goes from 3000tr/mn to 5200tr/mn until cpu is 45 degrees again.
At 5200tr the maximum the fan is incredeably loud and if the room temperature is more than 25 the fan never stops!
Any solution to control the fan???
Any other owner noticed the fan being so loud?
Read posts stating this happens with i5 and i3 as well.
Also swap the HD fo a vertex 2 ssd , remove the dvd player (connecting by usb now) and replaced it by a caddy and a 500 gb HD.
The machine works great windows boot in 30 seconds.
Tried to connect a external hd to the esata but can't boot on it! The bios sees it can choose to boot on it but then can't read!
Trying to install windows on esata external hd fails, the setup does not see the drive.

Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
You could try SpeedFan but it does mess with registry settings.
Have you considered repasting your 15R? It might yield better results than trying to control the fan. All manufacturers will mound on cheapo thermal paste and lots of it. The result is generally terrible. Also realize the 740QM is a 45 watt quad core processor and it does get hot. Also have you tried blowing out all the dust/crud in your fan/heatsink/heatfins?
For your e-SATA problem, are you sure that external drive works?
Inspiron 15R N5010 an very loud + esata problem
