    Hi all

Im trying to troubleshoot my mothers laptop. The headphone jack doesn't seem to be active in any sense and Im not sure what to try.

The speakers work fine and they continue to outout sound when the headphones are plugged in. The only sound device listed in playback devices is Speakers/Headphones Realtek Audio, and is the default device. I have show hidden and didabled devices selected but there are none.

I have reinstalled the drivers from Dells site and I also let Windows do the installation itself after a reboot. No effect.

Any other suggestions? The laptop is under warranty so if its a hardware problem it can be resolved but I'd rather get advice on here rather than speak to Dell directly.

    Thank you in advance.

If you tried all the "normal" things...I would just contact Dell, they may be able to direct you in the right course to fix it.
