    Inspiron 1705 Monitor/hardware? problem

    Ive had this 1705 for about a year and a half... just a day ago the screen blanked out on me but the power was still on... now everytime i turn it on in never fully starts and eventually goes blank, also, there is a grid of white dots all over the monitor when computer is turned on.....i have a feeling that i may have messed it up when i put in a stick or ram in it..... any advise or suggestions are greatly appreciated...

    can you plug in an external monitor and get a picture out of it?
