Four months ago, my Inspiron 1720 started to dropped internet connection once or twice a day for around 2 mins and then back to normal. I am usually using skype or a program call Qutoetracker when it happened. But other notebook I used in the past with these two program doesn't cause me any problems in the past.

I thought it was my wrt54g router that die because I cannot ping the router. So I change to a better router and samething happened.

I had tested 2 other pcs, one lan and other wireless connection while my Inspiron 1720 dropped and they both connect to the internet without a problem.

Besides this issue, the notebook is running perfectly well and super fast.

Anyone knows what is going on?

I believe it is a driver problem. I was having the same problem on my 1720 running Vista and couldn't get it fixed. Have 2 other laptops in the house that never drop a connection. I solved the problem by installing Windows 7 beta. It hasn't dropped a connection since.

Check Dell support and see if they have an updated driver for your wireless card. If that doesn't work I would call tech support and let them troubleshoot it.
