I ordered an Inspiron 1720 with Vista preinstalled and Bluetooth capabilities. After awhile, I decided to downgrade to XP after Vista failed to meet my needs. Unfortunately, on the Dell website, there is no Bluetooth driver for the XP install.

Can someone help me get Bluetooth installed? I searched the forums but I didn't find anything that fit my exact specifications. The bluetooth light on my computer doesn't turn on either, and it doesn't show up on my Device listing either.

You need to activate bluetooth again. Look for the driver on dell site by searching R159805.EXE (approx 152kb). Installing this will activate your bluetooth module. After that reinstall bluetooth application (R161378.EXE).

When I install the Bluetooth Software, it gets stuck on the "Activate Bluetooth using Fn + F2 or Radio On/Off Switch.

Excellent, it DID work! You beauty! You are a legend iLLuSi0N. Cheers and many thanks from me and my Inspiron 1720 owning friend.

PS: I also used nLite to custom preload the ICH8M/E drivers before installing XP, so no worries getting SATA, worked a charm too.

    Hi iLLuSiON,

I downloaded both files and double clicked on it both. Both created their own folders in the hard drive. However, I also get stucked on the "Activate Bluetooth using Fn + F2 or Radio On/Off Switch".

May I please ask exactly how it's done? Apologies on this. I am really at a loss on what to do. Thanks!

    To iLLuSi0N: Great post!

Did work on my DELL Vostro 1720 downgraded to WinXP.
I confirm: just apply the "enabler" R159805.EXE and
then reinstall bluetooth the application R161378.EXE.
    (both on http://ftp.dell.com/network/)

    Thanks a lot.
