I recently bought an Inspiron 1720 with the base DVD/CD burner combo drive. for it worked fine at first, I burner a few DVDs without problems. Recently, when I insert a blank disk into the drive it doesn't autoplay. after clicking on it in My Computer it says "D:/ is inaccessible". it reads just fine, but it just won't work for burning. I've already tried using Roxio. it says it's burning, but when it is done the disk is blank. I also tried to find new firmware and uninstall the drivers. nothing is working. Help!

I had the same problem (exactly). Roxio ****s up the drive. I bought Nero, and everything is fine again. You won't believe how many times I had to format and re-install Vista because of Roxio. My drive is TSSTCorps TS-L632D.

Remove Roxio, completely, even it's registry, remove the LowerFilter key from registry, and install Nero.

    What I'd do is
    First uninstall Roxio
Then use ccleaner and "Scan for issues"
Back up the registry when ccleaner prompts me to
Tell ccleaner to fix any issues it finds
Repeat until ccleaner finds no more issues
Then use regedit and search for keys with the word Roxio in them to see if ccleaner might have missed any.
