    Hello all,
I have been trying to upgrade the processor in my 1720, but I have not been able to figure something out. *I apologize if this has been asked before, after reading 40+pages of 1720 information I figured I would just ask*

    I currently am running a T5250.
I have my eyes set on a T9500.

    Bios A09, Chipset PM965

The problem is that I ordered one, and when I installed it in the mobo, the 1720 did not want to boot at all. (When button was pushed, the power light would flash, and then nothing. Some other times the power, number lock, caps lock, and scroll lock would flash, and nothing.) It was a used T9500.

So, my question is this.. Is there a specific model of the T9500 that I need to get and put into my 1720? I have seen SLAYX, and SLAQH for example. I am definitely going to go with a new processor this time to take the defective question out.

Thank you for the time in reading this

Any PGA T9500 should work in theory. Did you remember to lock down the CPU? It's pretty rare for CPUs to outright fail, though definitely not unheard of.

I went step by step multiple times putting it in. I made sure it was locked down each time. (Even did the cleaning the heatsink off and reapplying the paste with each shot)

My concern was that with so much information on replacing the CPU, I did not find a single post anywhere in regards to the difference between a T9500 SLAYX vs a T9500 SLAQH. Its one of the only questions I have not been able to find an answer to, till now ^_^

    Thank you!

I'm using a T9500 in my 1720 currently, it's a SLAQH. Theoretically the SLAYX should work too, they have a only difference on temperature...

Flashing power light after push on the button is likely meaning some component is missing, such as the video card is not connected to the motherboard. :)

Have you tried putting back your old working CPU to test if everything else is fine? Any missing pin on that new CPU? More importantly, do you have any other way to verify that T9500 is a good CPU?

    Thanks for the extra info.

I ended up getting another T9500 SLAYX that worked perfectly.

I had put in the old T9500, tried to boot up, failed so I took it out, and reseated it. I did this about 3-6 times before I finally just put the original processor in to test, and used that till the new T9500 came in so that I could continue with my classes.

I did not see any missing pins on the old T9500. Sadly I do not have a way to test it out so it is sitting with my 5250.

    Not the fastest CPU upgrade , but tonight I upgraded my wife's 1720 with Intel 965 Chipset, from T5550 (1.83G 2MCache 667FSB) to T7500 (2.2G 4MCache 800FSB).
    No problems....

6Gb Ram upgrade follows: GSkill ordered.

@JanJ Going for the 6Gb? Awesome. I am hoping to be doing that soon. I just went from 2 to 4 and the difference was immense.
How much RAM do you currently run before the Ram upgrade?
