I have a 1720 which I upgraded to Windows 7 Home premium despite Dell not 'recommending' it. It has worked very well in almost all aspects except for 2 problems. The first is the SDcard reader. It will show the cards (all reputable makes) but it will not allow me to write to them, saying that the cards are all 'write protected'. Very strange because I can write to them if I put them into a USB card reader and plug it in? Anyone have any ideas, please?
Secondly, I have had quite some hassle with the bluetooth. I've now got the Microsoft b/t mouse working AOK but that was after updating the driver. (It appears that many people have had difficulties with Dell's drivers in this area). Now I'm having further problems getting a bluetooth headset to work. The 1720 is 'pairing' with the headset but not 'connecting' because "the parameters are not correct". Again, any assistance will be much appreciated.

On both accounts, you should make sure you have the correct drivers installed for both of them, as for the internal bluetooth module, both the Dell Wireless Bluetooth 355 or D.W. Bluetooth 360 Module should work just fine for the Inspiron.
You may want to install an updated version for your motherboard directly from the Intel website. -
Thank you, Mihael.
I updated to the Dell 355 driver when I had the MS mouse problem so it's already in and working, but not for the b/t headset.
I tried Intel's website for the driver updates - it came up with a new wireless driver which I've installed. No change.
Having looked again at the SD card reader problem, I went to device manager and found Ricoh's SD/MMC controller. I assumed that would be the driver to update for the card reading problem? I downloaded it and tried to install it, after uninstalling the existing driver (but not deleting it, just in case). After installation I checked the properties of the Controller only to find the original driver had re-installed itself. So, where did the new driver go?
