Can anyone please run a benchmark utility such as Everest Free, or similar, to tell me the name of the manufacturer of the Firewire chipset in the Inspiron 1720 please? Not the motherboard or CPU chipset, just the firewire component of the laptop, please. And maybe the cardbus chipset too, if you can.

The benchmark software is free, and they tell you what components and specifications you have on your particular computer, which is very useful too.

Reason I'm asking is that I have an external firewire soundcard, and for maximum compatibility the soundcard manufacturer recommends the soundcard only be used with certain firewire chipsets.

    Thanks

Really hope someone can help. This is the only pending bit of information that's stopping me from a purchase.

Dell Support are retards and keep passing me around without any other answer than "Be assured that Dell use the best firewire chipsets", which is zero help.

    Thanks
