    Ok... I have a laptop here that came in and it wouldn't boot. I got it to boot but it goes straight into diagnostics mode and says no keyboard or mouse.

    So I plug in external ones and it boots.

    So we order a new keyboard and it doesn't do any good. I order an entire new bezel (top piece that has the touchpad and it's board on there)... it came in Friday and I just sat down with it and it is not working. Touch pad now works but keyboard only partially works (maybe 10 keys).

    It is now giving me error 2000-0411 (I think) and says keyboard and power button board (they are the same) aren't detected.

    Anyone got any ideas? This thing is severely handicapped, if I could just get the keyboard working all would be well.

    Also it powers up right away when you plug the power cable in.... not sure how it would act with a battery. :eek:

    Have you tried maybe updating the BIOS?

    Haven't tried that... but I did clear the CMOS and that didn't do anything. :(

    First off;

    Are you sure you installed the keyboard correctly? Test with a known good keyboard.

    The power board panel is just a piece of plastic. The actual power button PCB is underneath.

    I think you are mistaken on what model I have. This keyboard is VERY specific to this laptop. It has a connector that sticks out the bottom and the whole keyboard slides into place to "connect it" (more like an old school video game cartrige). This power button is built onto the keyboard not like a regular laptop at all.

    I basically have the 15.4" version of the Inspiron 1720 (aka Vostro 1700). The keyboard does not house the power button. The power button top bezel is just a button that presses down the power button. The actual button is a PCB underneath.

    The keyboard has a seperate connector that is connected to a plastic housing that clicks into the palmrest.

    Possibly bad logic board? If you've replaced with a known good keyboard, that is the only thing left;

    But try:

    Reseatting RAM/HDD
    Trying known good RAM
    Update BIOS to the latest version
    Replacing keyboard (looks like you have already done)
    Replace motherboard
