    Hi,

First off, my battery got messed up and no longer fit properly into the back of the computer so I decided to scrap it and go on the adapter

it's been working fine up until now. I recently installed XP SP3 over Vista that came with my laptop a long time ago and everything was going fine until until one day as I'm watching a video my laptop starts moving very slow and CPU usage doesn't go below 40%

this has happened twice, once after reformatting

after some googling I'm thinking this may have something to do with my battery but then again it didn't pose any problems in the past and even on the first day of using XP SP3 it was all good

since I changed OS I have downloaded some music and a few programs, neither of which had any viruses so I doubt that could be the problem?

any suggestion besides buying a new battery?

    thanks

system specs if you need are

    xp sp3
    intel core duo 2
    2.00 ghz
    997mhz 3.50gb of ram

    Hi,

please check, if DMA is enabled for both, HDD and your optical drive. See DMA reverts to PIO | Windows Problem Solver

Additionally, I would check the event log for errors. I suspect there might be some serious hardware failure. What happened with the battery or the laptop? It is really hard to believe, that a stock battery won't fit any more.

Apart from that, these computers run fine without a battery inserted. So the removed battery is most likely not the issue.

    Thanks a lot!

I think this may have done the trick, I found a way to change it manually and it has been going well so far.

My CPU Usage is back to normal and my PC is no longer moving slow.

    thanks again!
