    Hello,
I'm searching for desktop replacement (currently using iMac 20", I'm tired of OS X).
And I have come across two laptops - Inspiron 1720 and XPS M1330, both cost around 2000$ here.
The inspiron is butt-ugly, but it is very mighty with it's 8600M GT, 2GB ram out of the box and impressive WUXGA display 1900x1200. I shouldn't need to buy an external screen.
The XPS on other hand is very pretty, I dig the looks and build quality, but the screen is a bit too small (especially the resolution), therefore I should need an external screen, because I need big screen for my work (working with AutoCAD and such softwares).

So which is a better buy ? Does the new LED screen on XPS is really that greater than regular LCD on Inspiron ? And how inspiron feels compared to XPS, the ergonomics, build quality, etc ?

    Thanks in advance!

You could get an xps m1530, which is a good compromise b/t the two. The gfx card is the same as the 1720, the screen isn't too much worse if you config it right, and it can be configured pretty much the same as the 1720.

*Actually, the gfx card in the 1530 is more powerful than the 1720's one!*

Phone them up and ask when it will be avaliable.

M1530 would probably be a better choice than the M1330 for sure because it will have the higher resolutions plus the 8600m GT graphics card.

Latvia is in Europe thus you'd order through Euro Dell which does list the M1530. (Thats what I thought)

In any case if it isn't avaliable it will probably become avaliable to the rest of Europe after Christmas after alot of the demand has died down. You'll get a better deal in the New Year too as Penryn draws closer.

M1530 isn't listed on our shops anywhere here. Checked euro.dell.com, the M1530 there is only with WXGA (1280x800) screen..
Guess I will wait till february to see how things will round up here..

    Thanks guys for your help.

If you ring up Euro Dell do have the 1440x900 WXGA+ resolution screen in stock its just not listed on their site yet. (Same goes for the UK site I rung up and got the WXGA+ screen).

So ring up and I'm sure they will have the resolution you want.
