Has anyone else experienced paint peeling issues on their new 1720/1721 laptops? If so, could you give your paint color, order date, and build date? For build date I found a date listed under the upper keyboard cover that pops off easily with a fingernail.

Reason I bring this up is we have a early (may 2007) revision 1720 in the espresso brown color where the rubbery coating is peeling around an edge. The paint processed was explained as improving, and my hopes are the later revisions would not exhibit these defects.

Attached are some sample shots of the problem on our 1720

Looks like the clearcoat is wearing thin. Like a car, it's the protective layer that is on top of the colored layer.

Unlike a clearcoat though, this IS the color layer completely coming off. Think late 80s and early 90s american cars that have the "just drove 500mph" look of the paint ripping off.

And this was like this basically coming out of the box, so no slipcase or backpack wear seen yet.

hmm, so if all the laptops start looking like that, will we have some type of recourse against Dell?? Or no, because it's a cosmetic issue? I mean, they are now charging extra for the colors!?!

Makes me happy that I went with a plain looking business class Latitude D830. Sure, it's not as nice looking at your Inspiron, but at least it won't look like crap in a few months. Sorry to hear that guys, I'd complain to Dell if I was you... They are going to say it is "normal" wear, yeah right. :-/
