Just purchased a new Dell Inspiron 1721. I purchased this 7200 RPM sata HD http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16822145160 . However when I pulled my old HD out, it appeared to have a different pin connection. Did I purchase the wrong type of HD? I thought SATA was a SATA connection. Weird. Any help would be great.

    Thanks.

Most of our notebook hard drives are actually fitted in a carry-case before they are placed in the notebook itself. The casing is held to the bare drive by a couple of small screws, and often the casing includes an adapter to fit the normal sata connector to the connector on the notebook itself. If you remove the old drive from its case, the new drive should fit in the case just fine.

Let me know if you have any questions.
