Quick question for an owner, or a Dell rep:

The only specs for the audio system on the 17R SE on the site are that it's got a 2.1 setup with Waves MaxxAudio, etc. I'm wondering if anyone has any details on wattage for them. I'm wondering how they compare to the XPS 17's speakers. I know they won't be as good, but still looking for a general idea.

    Thanks in advance,

Apparently the speakers on the 17R SE are some of the best speakers you'll find on a laptop. They are Skullcandy speakers and are probably better quality than the current XPS17.

Not sure about the wattage I'm afraid.

When i compare them with my m17x (klipsch) and the xps 17 (jbl) the skullcandy in the inspiron se are not as good as the jbl, thats really the best audio i've ever heard on a laptop.

Can you give any rough ideas more specific than that, macfreak? Something like M17x (1.0), SkullCandy (1.3), JBL (2.9).

For reference, I've owned an M17x as well, so I have a fair idea of the audio power of that one as well.

I think jbl is like a 9+, the klipsch 7 and the skullcandy 7-, they seem to have more distortion in the high freq. at higher volume levels.
Audio lovers should really go for the jbl's in the xps.

Not bad then. Thanks very much for that. I've been debating between the Inspiron SE or a Samsung series 7. I tried the Samsung, and I was a really big fan of the chassis - extremely compact for what you get, and lovely to hold and take around the place, etc. - but the audio was pretty damn thin, and the display wasn't fantastic (though maybe that's just me being spoilt with a desktop IPS monitor :p) so I sent it back in the end.
