The adapter on my Inspiron 17R SE 7720 works (ring lights up blue). But Windows 8 is not detecting anything being plugged in and charging. Power is just draining.

I just sent this laptop in because it would not boot, now this!!!

Anyway to resolve this so I do not have to send it in and miss my laptop for 2 weeks?

Also, the front white light on the laptop shows that it is not being charged even on boot and not in windows.

Didn't you get next day at home warranty?

Have you tried removing the battery, pressing and holding the power button for at least 10-15 seconds then reinserting the battery?

if the reset above does not work try re-installing / updating your chipset drivers

the other thing you can check is booting into the BIOS setup and verify if the BIOS recognizes that the charger is present

it should identify that a xxx watt charger is attached

I'm having this too with a 17R 5720 I got about a month ago from the outlet. Did you ever get your issue resolved AlphaFlight?

    1. run the build in diagnostic test (you find it inside the boot meny)....its enough with the short version, (the long version goes threw the hard drives...which takes ages)

    2. select Device Manager .
    . Expand the Batteries category.
. right-click the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery listing, and select Uninstall .
. On the Device Manager taskbar, click Scan for hardware changes .
Alternately, select Action > Scan for hardware changes .
Windows will scan your computer for hardware that doesn't have drivers installed, and will install the drivers needed to manage your battery's power. The notebook should now indicate that the battery is charging.

    3. do a clean install of windows. (it might very be software related....named: Power management software)

I think this has to do with the battery. On an XPS l702x I had similar issue when after using the laptop on battery it will get hot (normal) and after plugging in the charger it would not be recognized, the battery will continue to drain till the end. After the battery is cooled down things would get back to normal.

This same laptop continues to have problems, but this is because the battery is almost dead - 76% Wear. It has all sorts of funny issues.

I suggest you check your battery wear levels. This might be an indicator as to where to point your finger (battery manufacturers :))
