I just took delivery of a 17r 5737 laptop from the Dell Outlet and I have noticed when watching videos that the screen appears to be dynamically adjusting the backlight brightness constantly. The screen will flicker between different backlight brightness settings as videos play, which is fairly annoying when trying to watch something. Is there a way to turn off this dynamic brightness setting? Or is there something wrong with my display and it should not be doing this?

The screen is the FHD 1920x1080 matte display and it has Intel HD 4400 graphics, as well as an AMD Radeon 8870M discrete GPU.

    Thanks

Hi mate, this is the intel 4400 driver. Open the driver program, click in "Power" then go to "On Battery" tab, there you will turn "Power saving", "Refresh rate" and "Extend battery life" to OFF. Apply and reboot and your problem will be gone :)

Thank you for the suggestion. As it turns out, it wasn't the Intel HD 4400 drivers, but you pointed me in the right direction. It was the AMD Radeon HD 8870 drivers doing it. In the Catalyst Control Center under Video > Quality, there is a setting called "Enable dynamic contrast." I used the side by side demo mode and this is most definitely what was causing the issue. Now that it is turned off, all is well in the universe.

    Thank you so much!
