I just got my new laptop - I installed and older vertex 2 120gb SSD (sata2) drive I had around and made the 1tb drive a data drive. Had to break the raid through the software even after the clean install so ghost could see it and I could image the drive. Now I'm debating what to do with the unused mSATA drive.
I see right now it shows an 8gb hibernation partition - I'm not sure if Windows is actually using it since the clean install or how to check, and 21gb unallocated. Could make a partition on it and use it as a fast swap file drive - quicker than my SSD and free up some space. Otherwise I can just unplug it, maybe save a little power. Any thoughts?

Why don't you just use the mSATA to speed up access to your data on your storage drive? I don't understand why this is a dilemma. Use your Vertex SSD as your Windows installation and then use the mSATA and 1 TB drive as storage to speed up the access time.

I don't think caching my data drive would really do much for me, basically all that's on it now are a ton of ISO images and some movies - things that I'll rarely use and would probably get bumped out of cache by the time I got back around accessing it again and have to be read from the spinning disk anyway

Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
I wonder if there are any performance increases to an SSD if you cache it with another SSD?

Its so simply.
Windows on ssd
Msata for faster rebooting/cache -
No, you shouldn't use the mSATA as a cache for an SSD. It won't do anything except add more latency and probably slow things down.
I'm not sure what effect it will have if used to cache the data HDD, as from what I understand, over time the mSATA caches the most frequently used files and applications for quicker loading, but unless you have frequently used files on the HDD it might not improve performance at all.....?
Has anyone here done the SSD as OS drive and mSATA/HDD data drive set up yet?? -
You can't select an SSD when trying to accelerate a drive. The RST drivers detects it's an SSD and won't let you accelerate it. It will only accelerate HDD. I tried 2 brands of HDD now (WD and Samsung) with succes acceleration. I also tried 2 brands of SSD (Corsair Force GT and OCZ Vertex 3) and none of them i could use the accelerate function to enable caching on the ssd, would be useless anyway!
