    Hi Guys

I'm about ready to murder somebody or at least the lappy goes flying. I'm trying to hook up the laptop to my gigabit network at home to make life easier transferring those large legally obtained files back and forth from my NAS.

Having got sick of the crappy onboard 100mbit lan card I thought i'd try a USB3 to gigabit adapter, no joy the one I got is based upon the ASIX AX88179 which seems pretty universal for these adapters, but will it work on the 7720 will it F$%*. Nope the laptop wants nothing to do with it!. It will install fine an sit there quite happy untill you connect it to a network and try to run it at 1gig at which point the adapter is rapidly connecting and disconnecting continuously (note the adapter disconnects not the connection). I've checked cables everything including using every port on the laptop inc the high power one. IF you switch it to 100mbit only then its fine!

Having searched high and low on google and here the best I can tell is there is an issue with some Dells and this adapter but nobody shows any kind of solution. Now i'm sure out of all the people on here with 7720's I cant be the only one who needs gigabit so the question is can I either get this one working or does anybody know/use and adapter that they can confirm does work.

    Cheers

    Guthy

Am I seriously the only person who's tried to plug a USB3 gigabit dongle into one of these things. Surely somebody must have done it and had success?

Have you tried contacting whoever sold you the USB3.0-Ethernet adapter and asking for a replacement? Or testing it with another PC?

Apologies for the late response, The USB 3.0 Adapter came from a pretty much no name bulk vendor on Amazon. I've since tested it working fine desktop supporting Usb3.0. I've since had another problem crop up where the on-board LAN port just stops working until you disable then re-enable it. All in all love the laptop top but its connectivity lick balls.
